Of course now the whole PvP thing will rear it's ugly head again.
He said "Imagine what will happen when we add PvP to EverQuest Next Landmark"
And all those PvPers jumping up and down now knowing that of course he meant single world, free for all, full loot, no limit PVP.
Now he didn't say any of that but since he only uttered 3 letters nothing else can be wrought from the statement either.
In short yes there will be PvP. To what extent is still quite hidden from us.
PVP is in but it is so console friendly and over simplified I have a feeling that is not their target audience. Looks more like a PVE sandpark with semi open pvp game for casuals. Almost no possible way their will be any full loot. It has interesting elements but is also aiming at PG 13.

Dont forget it's horizontal progression, which means full loot doesn't sting like it does in current MMOs. They could go full PVP and let newbies Street FIghter their way out of being ganked by vets. THAT is one of the keys to eliminating griefing.

Why do people make claims they can't back up. PVP has had no discussion other then to say that yes there will be PVP. They have said already that EQN and EQNL are being released on the PC. They only gave a nod to the PS4 when it was asked about (as in yes it's there, yes it's cool, and someday they may make a version for the PS4 but not now and not in the near future). There is no evidence to how casual or hardcore the games are going to be. There is no evidence indicating the target audience or how intense game elements will be.
I would be shocked if any good game ever releases with full loot PvP again, it is such an awful idea for an MMO. The games that have had it just made items so easy to get you didn't mind losing the loot in the first place and gave you lots of options to hide your loot where people couldn't touch it.
Originally posted by Jean-Luc_Picard If they really add PvP to EQNL, they will have to add mechanics to stop people from destroying what others have built while the owners are sleeping/working or doing whatever other real life activity, or the game will flop badly. I'm pretty sure that PvP, if ever added, will be fully optional and not forced, which is a good thing.
Well I don't think they should be all or nothing with it, some things should be destructible and some should not. Player houses for instance but other things should be destructible. Optional pvp wont work it never does there do need to be wild areas and safe areas I agree but one big safe zone is going to get boring for pvp casuals.
What I am most worried about is how deep the class mechanics go all the other features seem good so far, but it will be a complete waste if they aim towards too much action combat button smashing.
I also seriously doubt that after the EQ2 debacle they have not learned any lessons. After WOW kicked EQ2 in the teeth I can say almost for certain they won't try the consensual pvp pure pve system again.
People, if you think there are going to be "real" pvp in EQL - you are insane.
There aren't even classes there! No stats! I don't know what kind of "pvp elements" they are going to throw there, but those will NOT be "real pvp" - it will be something even simpler than 1 on 1 arenas!
A short write-up on Landmark, with a teaser about Landmark PVP at the bottom.
Love it!!! Please have pvp servers that are real pvp servers...meaning cater to the hardcore pvper. Then have the pve servers for the pvers.
Not sure how they could make that work in a building game though. They would still have to make players able to protect their creations from overnight destruction, or nobody would build anything and the game would turn in a giant gankfest...

Actually, there are classes in EQN Landmark. You will even be able to unlock the exclusive "Adventurer" class, and all your characters will be transferable to EQNext when it releases.
As far as I know there is ONE class in EQ:L - that same "adventurer". And when they say "Players will also be able to take their “Adventurer” class from EverQuest NextLandmark over to EverQuest Next.", I read it as "you'll be able to import the looks of your character - face and whatever, if they'll have character editor".
If I'm wrong, I'll be glad to see any link in support.

Yes, "Adventurer" is the class of Landmark, but like the main character in Minecraft, it's a fully fledged character class with skills and stats. And the character will be fully transferable to EQN.
If you ever played Minecraft, you'd know that only having one "class" doesn't automatically mean the game won't be fun.

I feel the opposite. I really just wanted a world builder and a creative community without any MMO features.
Same here.. I really hope that my creative options won't be limited because I do not wish to PVE or PVP in EQNL, but now they're talking about rewards.. so what else could this mean, I wonder? Are we supposed to choose one game or the other, or dedicate our time to 2 MMOs now? I was hoping EQNL was for creative building and the rest of the game was in EQN.

All you need is the choice in a sandbox. The players will take it from there. The more tools the better. Sony wouldn't really need to add anything but the ability to group, combat, and a choice. What's "real" pvp?

Why do you guys want to build worlds and not have people play in them. It's what they're for are they not? Creation is for others, not yourself.

You are no different. You are just as much of a sheep, just following a different shepherd.

Pretty cool.
I like how they're adding combat and pvp after the fact.
Let's just hope it's for real and not hype.
