Final Fantasy XI has set the bar for MMORPGs that are engrossing and all encompassing to me. Final Fantasy XIV is continuing the trend. I cannot wait to see what Yoshi-P has in store for us and how he will implement it. I love FF and it loves me! lol..
Final Fantasy games are what changed the type of gamer I was. I used to only play FPS and survival horror games. And that was it. My first FF game was FFX. And I was hooked after that. The story, the music, the style just got me hooked. I played through FFX a few times for the different endings with Tidus and Yuna and once I got them all, I was back at the game store and online looking for more Final Fantasy. The next I played was FFVII. Then it was just a hodge podge after that. There was no numerical order whatsoever but eventually I was able to get a collection of every Final Fantasy game available in the U.S. Platform or online. Excellent games.
I enjoy long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.
The Final Fantasy series is the game series that started my love of video games. The first I played, when I was about 5 or 6, was one of the most critically acclaimed in the series, and a series stable when it comes to how the series has started to progress. Of course, I talk about Final Fantasy 6, originally 3 here in the States. That game taught me how to fall in love with the characters, and truely devote myself to a franchise. Since then, I have collected every game in the main series line, and beaten all but 2 of them. And I will continue to play the series as long as we both may live.
For me, I picked up the game first in Tactics for my Gameboy system. From there forward I was hooked. The rich world with choices and an RPG like interface made this a game that allowed me to play my way. I got to choose who to level up and how far I would take them. I got to choose how to get to the end and I got there more than one way as I replayed the game later.
I think what is most special about the series, at least what I played, is that it lent itself to the MMORPG flavor of choices. It reminded me the reason I got into computer RPGs. Have you ever read a book and read about the hero making a dumb choice, from your POV and thinking, I would never make that decision? Thus is the RPG born and this feel has been present in this series wherever I have played it. This is its crowning glory.
I remember being hypnotized for hours and days, wanting and hoping to get another go on a game in a different genre then I was use to in my early gaming days. The game was Final Fantasy Mystic quest and to be honest it blew my mind, I had never wanted to play so bad since Mario 3 hit the scene for NES. I was truly sucked into the journey and development of characters and the stories behind such. This held true the second i popped Final Fantasy 7 into a psx and forever more would my life be changed for the better once again as well cementing my loyalty to the Square Soft later to be Square Enix brand. Somewhere between EPIC battle scenes never seen in the video game world with character and story depth that kept the paddle in your hands for hours among days among multiple replays and in the end the fans truly understand the quality of game this company brings to the table and i'm just saying thanks for the effort its appreciated throughout the FF Fan community forever.
There will never be another FF7 as it is timeless.
Final Fantasy is most definitely the reason I love role playing games over all today. Whether pretending to fall asleep and sneaking downstairs to play FF on NES to SNES, or faking sick and staying home in high school to play through FF7, to trying to play FF tactics and realizing I can play strategy games, there never seems to have been a moment in my life of gaming where I wasn't enjoying a final fantasy game or yearning for the next. Sadly now it means having to act like an adult and play FFXIV whenever I can get a free moment...which always seems to end to soon. Hell I even enjoyed the movie too......maybe I am biased?
After lineage2,wow,aion,gw,gw2 and many other "fantasy" genre games who failed to keep me interested , my last hope i think can be the "Final Fantasy" and indeed if this one fail is going to be the final fantasy mmo i am going to play. Gimme ur "Final Fantasy" and il work hard to be the one and only final forever fantasy
To me Final Fantasy series is connection. The worlds these series describe are vast and stories they tell are deep. And when you witness them something profound awakens in your consciousness. Like when you see a great picture, hear an inspiring music composition or read a novel that makes you think.
An inspiration, if you want. A call to live your own life fully. A call that any work of art sparks.
P.S. FFXIV ARR is success. I was sceptic, now I am believer. Not too fervent, though - it's age inappropriate. To date it is only MMORPG that holds my interest not with RPing in familiar place, not with treadmill, but with old as world question: 'what will happen next?' Genuine interest (and that considered I am really tired of typical themeparks). Good combat system and tremendous progression connection. Maybe I am yet to meet gaps because I'm not that high in level, but so far I like game a lot.
You'd think at my age I'd be more mature about video games. And you would be right . . . except where FF is concerned. Nothing transports me back to the (late) 1980's faster than FF. When all my friends were enamored of Zelda, I sought more immersion, more challenge, more fun. Final Fantasy delivered all that and more.
Dancing with the franchise that brought me such joy was easy, and I was richly rewarded with the game that set the standard for stories and graphics, VII. Epic battles, fantastic side trips, and THE villian, what else is there to say?
I'd love the chance to own the newest installment and play it with others; especially one signed by an originator of such childhood joy. No one means more to fantasy (pun intended) than Yoshida.
There is something about a Final Fantasy game that screams originality, immersion and imagination. There are just no games like it, you always know when you are playing one. FF is spectacle, emotion and pure enjoyment for the senses.
Interesting and bigger than life characters, an epic story and masterfull presentation is what makes a core of a Final Fantasy game. I was one of the few that like the original FF XIV game but I still support the effort Yoshida-san has put in to make the game appealing to a wider audience while retaining evrything that made FF XIV a great game.
Final Fantasy to me has been games that no matter the gameplay is all about story. The franchise is legendary so any gamer whether they have ever picked up a copy of any of the games will at least know the legend that is Final Fantasy. This is why I love the franchise, for all the good and the bad both in personal experience and in reviews which are not always accurate for every player, we have a series of game that shows no sign of dying out and with every new game the world expands. Just like our individual stories here on earth we can experience the stories of dozens of other characters in a world that is evolving and becoming more rich in lore.
