When SWToR launched, I bought the box with the required one month sub and enjoyed it quite a bit, but decided to quit like the majority of the players back then. Reading the forums here about the new patch made me interested in starting again, so I went ahead and downloaded the game and logged in to create a new character. I wanted to roll a Chiss (species) Bounty Hunter, but this species is locked, only subscribers or cartel coin buyers can unlock this species. When the game was P2P this species was readily available for BH. For me this is just a slap in the face for a returning player, old subscriber. If you want people to play your game again, why would you create a barrier even before logging in to the actual world?
I understand that F2P players should be limited in their gameplay to some extent but even limiting character races that were available to you before is a bad move for returning players and for me personally it made me shut down the game again. Don't know if this has been discussed before but I really felt let down, it was a real surprise for me.
how about active your old account if still have and by the way subscribers have buy the race to or wait to hit lvl 50 serious the login as F2P player and think you can have samething as P2P player really what was you think about

No, because almost every other game in the genre can give me a better game for free. SWTOR was so bad they went free to play in under 2 years, they don't get to dictate what people play with their failed game. At this point they are happy to get our scraps because they failed the genre so miserably that they have gone down as one of the worst games in history. games that think they can charge monthly fees are in for a world of hurt, I expect almost every single one to be a flop at this point. There are just too many sources of free to play after purchase games out there. You have to really stand out to charge a monthly fee and SWTOR isn't one of the 10 best MMORPG released in the past 2 or 3 years, they certainly do not stand out.

I would definitively not say majority ... swtor is only game I have played without interruptions daily (on weekends even whole days from morning to night, been a lot at home because of injuriy) for aprox 7 or 8 months as I remember. My max in one short was usually 3 months. When I left there were still enough players around at any area to be playable. Haters community was incredibly active on advertising how bad and empty game was (while they never played at all) that maybe many did not even buy.
When first time logged back still before F2P option numbers of players - which is normal - have decreased but still all areas playable.
Whenever I have returned later, mainly after F2P introduction) in every area there was just right ammount of players to be playable. So var have maxed out as I remember 12 alts, 4 still waiting my next return. I will have all possible combinations of classes and sides.
I'm still looking always for something new, but only games I can immagine to play for next 10 or even 20 years are Wow and Swtor with new expansions of course.

All I got out of this was...its not free enough QQ, Im entitled to get everything for free QQ, I have no clue what I'm talking about. Top ten mmos in the last 2-3 lmao please list 5 other MMOs that came out in the last 2-3 years that are better. How does this site not bad these poor people who are so hurt who's lives have been so affected by swtor they just spout lie after lie after lie. Move on buddy its a video game geez.
It will die anyway in 2014. Better not spend a dime for this abomination. you can find much better mmo's for less money or even free to play.
Ah yes another expert with swtor death date. Man you guys really need to find another hobby. Last night 6 instances of fleet orican 8 when we ran fortress there were 40 other people in there. The game is not going anywhere. You keep wasting another few years crying about a video game you don't play we will continue to enjoy this game. Sounds like we will be the winners here while grown adults continue for the next few years crying about a video game they don't play.

In what world is it a good idea to keep new blood out of PvP? What in the ever-loving fuck could possibly be wrong with the designer who made this decision?
From a business standpoint this is their stupidest decision. 3 per week is just a bad decision as you want people logging in "daily". One per day would be the way to go as people would actually log in...
3 per week is inconvenient and I don't care how much you like this game or who you are but it is a dumb decision as people don't log in "daily" which is what they should be wanting and should be doing, but their F2P model is so stupid.
Get people in the game first, that is the first step.

The whole Free-To-Play thing is a lie....it should be called Free-To-Try with restrictions but then no one would try it because they feel everything in life is owed them. Where did this attitude come from that you shouldn't have to pay anything to play a game? How do you think these companies are going to stick around offering free gameplay?
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
The people who like the game will carry on playing it, others wouldn't play it if everything was free. Two polarized camps.
But there's always a section of players occupying the middle ground, these can be quite significant in number and who are more likely to compare one game's playing model against the next.
It's no secret that the Swtor ftp model is pretty awful compared to other ptp conversions. Stacking it up against Rift - well it doesn't, not in the slightest. And stacking up gainst the likes of Tera, Aion - it still doesn't.
So, you are going to get posts like the OP - of people who decide to give it a second go with the ftp model. And - it's never going to work.
Swtor's ftp model just gives out two continual in your face messages:
1. We don't like ftp players.
2. Sub - see item 1.
To me they have missed a trick with the ftp conversion, and a big one - but not surprising as it's entirely in keeping with their track record on this game. Why do something right for once when you are so comfortable with getting it wrong....

The thing with SWTOR is that some of the stuff that is being charged for is stupid and unnecessary. With STO I can play that more freely in F2P, but then more willing to pay for stuff as its F2P is reasonable.
SWTORs is worse because they need the money, as they are not getting enough to lighten things - not enough people are spending on SWTOR, but I bet if they did lighten things they probably would get more people buying stuff if that was the case, they obviously can not be willing to risk it.

Or they are perfectly happy with amount of subscribers they have.
I too subscribed after trying so called 'free to play'. It is just an extended trial and since i have no problem paying a monthly sub its fine by me.

Ah. Yes more lies from you. Swtor has more players on their lowest server on one side then sto has total. I proved you wrong on your last lie why not just give up and move on dude.
Either put up with the restrictions in place for FREE accounts or sub to the damn game. No matter how much any game gives to free accounts it will never be enough, you will inevitably get someone with an overblown sense of entitlement bitching that they dont get x, y or z. Or probably all three.

There are no lies as I am not going on the amount of people playing, I am on about the number of people paying. Also you did not prove me wrong. Has there been any information / news on stuff about SWTOR at all like with Denis Crosby eg has Mark Hamill come in to do some VO for SWTOR? If so then show it, as until then you have not proved anything.
SWTOR could have a hundred times more population than WOW, but if not many people are spending the money and mainly playing for free, then they do have enough funding to allow lighter restrictions. They were undecided about giving Makeb for free, and they in the end charged for it, as was not getting enough people paying in F2P, and needed to get more revenue so charged for makeb. It is now free to try and entice people to sub to get more revenue. Other MMOs only give past expansions free when they are more expansions to pay for. Dropping the fee to the makeb expansion so soon is premature, and last ditch attempt to try and get more money through subs. If there was enough people paying in F2P there would be no reason to drop the Makeb fee yet.
I bet STO is getting more revenue than SWTOR due to people more willing to splash the cash on it.
1 Billion players spending $0 is greater in revenue than 1 thousand players spending $1 - Disclaimer: Only an example I am sure SWTOR is getting more than $0 and STO more than $1

You are posting in the wrong website, this website is filled with EAWare fanboys who bash you for not paying for the game even though you clearly posted that you paid for the game(yeah that is how much blind they are). SWToR has converted to freemium. before that it was box price + monthly sub and you paid for the box price which was 40$(at the very least). let me tell you about other games that went freemium in past : DDO went freemium and everyone who bought the core game get everything within the core game as usual; you know because they paid for it, LoTRO same situation, eq1 same situation, eq2 same situation, DCUO same situation, age of conan same situation, vangaurd same situation and i can keep going. now we have SWToR, you paid for the core game, congratulations, the game is now freemium and you are now a preferred customer, here is what you get : http://www.swtor.com/free. if you think it is a slap in your face then i ask you : exactly what did you expect of EAWare? that they would welcome you back with open arms and let you have what you paid for? you must be living in a different world than us. but i understand, my sympathies. next time you try to buy something from anyone affiliated with EA keep this situation in mind.

Your are just some delusional grown man that somehow has been hurt by a video game you don't even play. Story took 3 yrs to release a faction it said would be out at release. I sent you a link that proved everything they have released since makeb has been designed worked on and built after launch (just other one of your sick lies about a video game you don't play proven wrong). You have no clue about the current game and have no clue about how much people are spending. And swtor you can play the entire original game 1-50 on multiple toons FOR FREE!!!! What was your point here?
I agree. I purchased the deluxe digital download for my wife and I. I think it's a slap in the face that we don't get some features that we spent our hard earned money on.
If you spend money on a game, that content shouldn't just "disappear". This is one of the worst F2P models I've ever seen.
Ladenian Cleric <Realm of Insanity> Stromm Server (EQ)-Retired Goober Paladin <Blades of Wrath> Icecrown Server (WoW) Retired
All these complaints about having to PAY for something is a FREE game. Haven't you gotten it yet....f2p is NOT free. The whole concept is a misdirection. It is like free healthcare..it does not exist. Some pays someplace so everyone else can play. If you wish to HAVE what those that pay have YOU MUST PAY. It is all in the marketing.

When you bought the box you knew to get everything you had to pay a sub. That has not changed. The only ones that should be slapped in the face are those who can't comprehend this. Its not free enough argument for any game is just sad.

The actions of EA with SWTOR prove that people are not spending enough. If I am wrong then it will be a first for a MMO for them to do what they are doing under success - It is dumb for them to drop the price for Makeb, until the Space Project releases, unless it will be free but from what I can see the Space Project will cost money. If Makeb was not made free until after the Space Project was released, then I would have subbed and paid for it, but now if they are going to make expansions free so soon after release then I may as well wait until the Space Project is free and then get it then.

Someone needs to start actually slapping people in the face so that old, tired, incorrect, nonsensical phrase can stop being used.
I immediately cannot take someone serious when I read that phrase anywhere in their post.

Either put up with the restrictions in place for FREE accounts or sub to the damn game. No matter how much any game gives to free accounts it will never be enough, you will inevitably get someone with an overblown sense of entitlement bitching that they dont get x, y or z. Or probably all three.
r.i.p. c!

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

I agree. I purchased the deluxe digital download for my wife and I. I think it's a slap in the face that we don't get some features that we spent our hard earned money on.
If you spend money on a game, that content shouldn't just "disappear". This is one of the worst F2P models I've ever seen.

Let's party like it is 1863!
