Dont know what to think really, i mean on one hand, yeah its great, to get some player made content in the game, who most of the times, tend to be more innovative and creative than the actual developers who get stuck in "public opinion" and on the other hand, its frustrating to know, that, when the final game actual releases, the "crafters" will have more insight of the game, cause let's be honest, nobody wants to play in a custommadetooltip game, and the true exploration and competition is in EQN, but at that time, landmark players will have more benefits. And where is the fun, if the game is allready wrecked via landmark, is is a copy of eqn and will look like "Alice in "wonderland" after a few months.
I really like how these two present the game features in this video. There is no rah rah hoo hoo hype or over the top promotional garbage. Just two calm relaxed developers talking about certain aspects of the game. I would of drowned myself if I had to hear another Paul Barnett kind of hype lol

Originally posted by Talmien I am way too confused over what Everquest Next is, and what landmark is. It seems now they're taking two gameplay elements and seperating them into to seperate games, rather than mixing them in a nice fun way. That being adventuring, and crafting.
It really isn't complicated. Landmark is what is done and ready for consumption. The World and Object Builder, Movement, Exploration, Basic Combat, Crafting and a bare minimum of actual Content.

The idea is that people will take the limited world that is finished and add on to it with all the awesomely cool stuff they can come up with that is over and above what the Devs have had time to do.
-
Add to it the ability to share what the players have created through that Cash Shop where you can get paid if you made a totally awesome castle or weapon or armor or something that other people want.

The biggest thing is that SOE is going to have contests to create content. Their example was "We need a temple ruin for Guk. GO!" The players then do their best to create something awesome. When the contest is over, the players vote on the best one and if it meets SOE standards and meets the design requirements, SOE will put it in the game.

The FULL game is going to be where we really see what EQ:N is going to be. They are working on making it a REVOLUTIONARY MMO rather than an evolutionary one. They don't want it to be another rehash of the MMO's we have been playing for the 13 years since EQ came out.

Lmao, I read exactly the same thing before GW2 came out. Don't let the hype carry you away.

REVOLUTIONARY MMO (alll caps, of course) isn't enough of deja-vu clue for the average reader who has been hanging around games for a while?
Yep, anyone who cares about the graphics of an MMORPG is missing the point completely. Gameplay always trumps graphics. If they can make this work it is the best MMORPG ever made easily. Pretty unlikely they make it work the way they suggest though, but graphics isn't going to be the downfall. Only being partially successful in 'the vision' will be the downfall.
Not sure what is to understand between the two mods though? One is like allowing the players to develop their own content and play in sort of a minecraft style game. The other is an MMO that can draw from the minecraft style game. So I can build an orc fortress in the Landmark game and if they like what they see they can put that fortress into the real game and allow orcs to build it.
Correct! But also having good graphics doesnt mean bad gameplay or vice versa. With today technology and quality of computers we can surely expect more of the graphics then this game provides...
Originally posted by EndoRoboto I think EQN will have sandbox elements but will ultimately be a theme park. Landmark will be more sandbox than Next.
re EQN: A sandbox can contain Theme Park elements and remain a sandbox. It will be a big mistake if they do too much on the static quest side without making sure there is a lot of unstructured options for play. To bolster your point though I did hear a rumor that you can't grind mobs for xp.

I am looking at it with the Fry-Futurama expression of "not sure if want".
What IS Landmark about? It seems very hard to imagine, despite all the descriptions. Or do I want this?
Do I want to spoil myself seeing all the EQ-N landscapes before??
Hmm.
