I am disappointed with all of these completely weak answers. If the game isn't fun for say the first hour you should realize tha the first hour is just filler and not judge the game by it. You need to wait for the portion of the game you enjoy the most to judge it. For some that is the first dungeon, for some it is the first PvP etc.

I try to give new titles 3 months minimum. My out is if developers lie or mislead gamers in a big way (ie: whole features missing or broken to a point you cannot use them) then I generally refuse to sub after the box sub is up.

    This ^^^

This is so many other entertainment options that i don't need to suffer any prolonged period of un-fun. If an entertainment product is not doing its job, next!

Exactly.  Interesting enough there seems to be a fad amongst gamers that post here on this site that seem to try to be hipsters and play games that are hardly known as if it's a cool thing to claim, like listening to indie music or wearing certain styles of clothing.  Then others will only play games if the financial reports show revenue growth or if sub numbers are certain levels.  I mean, what ever happened to just having fun with a game and playing it?  If it's not fun, move on.  Luckily we have so many choices in the games we can play and how they are played.  It's funny how many people refuse to accept or realize that concept.

I agree with what your saying except for the " so many choices " part.

if you look at the AAA MMOs out they really arnt all that different from each other as far as game play goes. we really dont have alot of choices. They are all quest hub, instanced, storyline driven, gear driven games. When you play one then go to the next its like playing the same game all over again just in a different  world with a different story line. its like buying another single player RPG to play.

and i say AAA MMOs because lets be real, how many indie games really come out and make it? can we even count them as we all know they are going to promise us the world and not deliver? with their 3 man dev teams.

Who says I only consider AAA MMOs?

There are a lot more fun entertainment options than just MMOs. Other video games, movies, anime, novels, tv ......

So yes, there are so many entertainment choices. It is not like MMOs are the dominant choice for me anyway.

Firstly, I won't buy any new games until I've played a trial. There's just too much trash around for me to be throwing my money at stuff that will likely stink. So when I trial it, I can get a sense of how the game is going to go from the first couple of hours; from the general feel, how it plays, etc. If I've been bouncing around like a superhero ninja not even needing to say hello to passing players, then chances are I'm not going to be buying, I like a reason for those other players to be there beyond simple eye candy.

If there is no trial then for me to buy I need to see a good amount of reviews or comments from other gamers. But even then I'm wary as people love WoW and I really can't stand it, so even the negative reviews might have something in there that I might find interesting.

So if I ever get to the game and try it out, a few hours to work out if it's for me or not.

Also keeping in mind that as soon as the dev/pub say "the fun starts at max level" i know i can safely move on to the next game.
