Black Limbo (game won't start) and unable to post at SE Forums

I'm sorry for another technical issues thread. This time I've carefully checked everything I could, before posting. I'm having some weird issues and this is the only way i found to communicate.

I can't create a thread on the official forums or use 'reply to thread'. If I try I get this message:

"you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."

I can only use Quick Reply or edit my previous posts. The bummer is the quick reply option is not available on the technical support section (at least not from here).

I'm having a huge technical issue (game won't start, that log in menu just stays black... never loads) and I can't contact support. Any tips?

I've browsed around the technical support section of the official forums and the closest thing to my problem was this thread:

I have deleted the game from my PS3 and I'm re-installing it (from disk to console).

I wonder if I should also delete saved data. There are 2 files related to FF XIV ARR: one for system information and another for my character. I'm kinda of afraid to delete these, especially the one that clearly refers to my character. I actually found werid that there is such a file. I thought this character stuff was entirely stored online.

I'd greatly appreciate any tips one either of these 2 problems: (a) not being able to post in the official forums, with the exception of quick replies; and (b) not being able to start up the game.

EDIT: great... now, after re-installing, when try to start it up, I'm 'unable to download patch files'.

Have you tried accessing the Account page from a computer to make sure its all good? Its either your account or Disc. PS3 are all the same so unless your ps3 hasnt been updated in a long time or something you shouldnt have a problem.

I would take the disc back and say you want another one. Most stores dont care about a reciept as long as your doing and exchange for the same item. I doubt its the disc but its always a good policy if a game acts up just replace the dissc, just to be sure.

The character file you found is probably nothing more than hotkey settings and macro settings.  That is typical for MMOs, even on consoles.  Deleting it shouldn't cause any problems.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like the problem is about to be fixed.

After a while, I tried to dowloand the patch again and it worked. But then I got a message saying my account had been suspended by suspicious activity. Here is what I think happened:

I had left my character sitting somewhere when I went to have breakfast. Then, while I wasn't playing, the was a short power outage which turned off the console abruptly. I don't know if by the time this occured my character was still online or had been logged out automatically due to being afk for too long.

Whichever the case, it seemed like the abrupt power cut turned the game off in an bad way and caused a data corruption. And I think the data corruption itself was branded as a suspicious activity. Then I had the 2 separate problems:

1- Couldn't start up the game due the data corruption. I had to re-install it.

2- My account had been suspended, which prevented me from posting freely at the official forums and... when I did re-install the game (and eventually were able to download the patch) caused me to need to go to my e-mail and follow instructions to regain access to my account, mainly by changing my password.

Right now I am in that log in screen, with the bikini pictures appearing now and then. The game accepted my new password and is now downloadinf ffxiv, of a few GB. It's gonna take about an hour. Then I think I'll be able to play, again.

So bizarre! Thanks for the attention, guys.

EDIT: Yup, that was it. It's working again. So, if ever your game won't start and you're not able to ask for support in the official forums, do not despair.
