Yeah don't think this going to go F2P anytime soon or ever for that matter. When i read that i thought about how void that statement is, as in not reading it every other post like other recent mmo's.
This is why i have no problem subbing up for 6 months, they aren't caching in on boxes, get a few month subs till mass exodus, then go F2P and nickle and dime players like swtor did and another big one coming /cough eso /cough is going to do.
When you have the confidence that SE has, as in it's a sub game and you don't like it "oh well". They are not wishy washy lemming publishers, this is what it is and that's that, period. Man i love that and is why i had zero problem going 6 months as i know my support for the game will not be disillusioned.

I fully expected after the first month was up to see the population on my server (Siren) drop noticably, but the fate groups are still zerging around, people are still huddled around the Retainer Bell (Bank + AH seller) crafters are still all over the place, end game groups are still selling titan kills for 700k, still getting a 2-6 person queue at prime time as I was before.
The end of the first paid month will probably me more telling, but I'm enjoying the game so far, GG SE.
Plus, the only games im at all interested in, Wildstar and EQnext, are still far off on the horizon, FF14 fills the void nicely.
He is trying to say that nobody has stopped playing and the servers are packed because he had to queue.
Problem is queues don't really mean anything, just as when they needed to increase server caps they can decrease server caps just as easily in preperation of the player loss and also many will be staying online to give the illusion of full servers while they goto bed or work, the afk kicker is easy to block.
This was very popular on FFXI, many would never log to inflate player numbers.
The problem honestly with what you're trying to accomplish with this thread is you're showing the exact opposite, your fear of failure. If you were genuinly confident you wouldn't make a thread like this and indeed you wouldn't defend it so strongly either because you wouldn't need to.
You're right, there are thousands of players who are all soooo personally invested in making sure this game looks more popular than it is, they are leaving their computers and game running 24/7.
If you told me a couple hundred obsessed fans were doing this I might believe you. But to think any significant amount of players are doing this Is poppycock.
And people AFKing all night to avoid not being able to log back in before the fixes is entirely different.

I find it amazing the lengths and theories people come up with to try to justify why this game only "appears" successful, but that it really isn't.
In GW2, server caps and populations were indicated in the log in client so it would certainly be in Arena Net's best interest to make them look full. However, there is no such metric in FF14. So what would be the point of artificially inflating or decreasing the caps if they are invisible to anyone else outside of SE? Unless, the doomsayers are suggesting that SE is intentionally locking players out of the game to pad the populations. Which following the wake of the Early Access issues, I highly doubt they would pull a stunt like that.

You never played FFXI did you?
Huge chunks of these people never logged off at all and you could see them afk in the same spot in the popular "afk spots" with search comments "At work" "Asleep" etc, there was huge anger at afk kicker on FFXIV because of these players that migrated over to this new game. The afk kicker is incredibly easy to get around so they stopped complaining and still never log off.
[mod edit]
Of course I don't think it's just that, they obviously would of lowered the server caps too. There is no reason to have such high server caps anymore, they wouldn't advertise the fact they did it though would they.
Anyone that thinks there are just as many people playing now as when it was free is crazy.

2 things.
1. There is no point in them lowering the server cap since there is no public display of server population ranges. It's pointless for them to try to make the servers appear to be more full than they really are using that method. If there was some metric that told us where server populations are, then you might have an argument.
2. Yes it is easy to defeat the AFK timer. But I'm not convinced it's the epidemic you claim. Even still, so what if it is? What's your point about it? We are now past the 30 day free month so all these so called "AFKers" are still paying a monthly sub.
The login queue is not bad since it always goes very quick, but why do we still have DF queues for pre-formed groups? This is not going to get any better as people "spread out" since it is happening at the high end DF's.

Im guessing DF as in the duty finder... your waiting for space to open up on those servers. The magic patch coming is suppose to add more of those servers. Most I ever waited with a full group was 11 minutes... but it wasnt prime time so ya it sucks, but I can understand why there holding out on adding even more servers, to see the population post "30 days free"

This thread and many others I've read say otherwise.
Also the fact they increased the server caps from a normal running position shows that this was done to meet increased demand at launch, not because it was a good server setting. Makes sense they would lower it again once it wasn't needed anymore.
If not they would of already been running it at max capacity.
I resubscribed on the 7th, but have only logged in once since then and only to craft. I kind of regret subbing. That said, the one time I logged in after the trial period, there was a brief queue. Take my single anecdotal experience for what it's worth.

It does serve as an example of how a game that doesn't appeal to everyone can still be incredibly popular and also be successful.
One thing I am absolutely convinced of. Most posters at mmorpg.com have no clue. This forum is so far out of touch with the majority of the MMORPG world it's really a joke. I won't even exclude myself from that.
Originally posted by Grailer I spent over an hour in Dungeon Finder Que the other day , this game is super popular .
If you play as a DD class it takes a long time to get a duty because everyone is playing as a DD. If you are a tank or healer you get on duty in about 30 seconds to 3 mins because there in high demand

I think MMORPG is trying to turn things around, but I feel like a lot of the community is not here to discuss, more to just argue and sling shit all over. Hopefully we can start policing our own and make this a site worth talking about. Lord knows, it is about the only site with any potential.
Anyway, back on topic, I re-subbed, logged in last night to a queue, got in and immediately found a group, saw hundreds of people all of my starter area and out in the wilds.
Haters gonna hate, but this game is doing fine today. In three months, who knows?
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

Most the 'vocal' minority that chats on here, besides the few good eggs you'll find eventually, are very full of bullshit & ignorance, and are just spewing hate/fanboyism, & plain out trolling [mod edit]
Alot of the community here is from old games and they are searching, generally in vain, for something to fill the void, and they don't usually have 10k postcounts, anyone with mass amounts of posts is 99% of the time one of the Bad eggs, and 1% a OG fighting in vain trying to convince people that old school games actually kicked ass and had more depth and content.
And just guessing, but I'm guessing out of the whole viewers of MMORPG.com, only 10% of them actually take part in the posting.
still get queue on diabolos !but it isn't long !so ya server are packed ! if I wasn't mistaking I would say this game is picking up! there was an insane amount of people this week end

FF ARR is by far the most fun mmo on the current market. Great comminuty, traditional mmo, healer ! tank ! Overal this game has it all
Not sure what you mean by "traditional", but free form classless systems are more "traditional" in my eyes.
The only reason Classes were implemented in some mmorpgs, is generally because the developers are to lazy to balance there game properly around such a cool idea as actually BUILDING AND CUSTOMIZING YOUR CHARACTER ( RPG ).

I think the whole Classes = Traditional stems from DnD which while not the first TTRPG it is the most famous and the ring that ruled them all...err I mean game. The whole idea of Role playing as playing the role of a paladin or wizard is what most view it as. While a Paladin who knows Necromantic magic makes a good story and unique character for a personal game session. Its kinda of a turn off in a huge world setting when everyone can and does do that.
Think of it in terms of Lore, If a Paladin had access to all the skills of a Thaum or a Monk it would be lore that its normal for Paladins to do that since 1,000+ players have that build, it would be considered normal. He really wouldnt be a paladin infact there would be no Roles at all (not referring to combat roles but character ). Now in FF14 you can have a Gladiator who instead of perfecting his art and becoming a fabled Paladin. Chooses to broaden his fighting style by taking some beginner lessons in Thaum(why would you), some lessons in Pugalist and some techniques from the lancers in Gardinia.
But on a technical view point even UO and AC had classes just like EQ... except in those games there called "builds" There's only a few good ones so in fact Forced-class games actually produce more variety.
