Riot Games recently hosted a huge worldwide event for the League of Legends World Championship. Genese Davis was on hand to witness the event and has an interesting take on eSports, in general, and League of Legends' brand specifically. Check it out before heading to the comments.
Before the championship began, our team interviewed fans to find out who was cheering for whom and why they were cheering for that particular team. We were interested to know if eSports fans followed the same patterns as athletic sports fans when choosing their favorite teams. For example, when we asked Chicago Cubs fans why they are Cubs fans, the most popular reason was because they are from Chicago or have family in that area. The second most popular reason was because a fan found something in common, some personal connection with a particular player, and that connection made him or her a fan to the entire team.

Watched some of it and liked it.
PvP teamplay at the highest level gets my respect.
Not really my thing, although I do watch Football and enjoy it so i'm not exactly sure what the diffrence is. I guess I'd rather be playing, but I hated playing football.......
I honestly have no idea. Although watching StarCraft players at the top levels really is a sight to see. I've never really been impressed with Pro LoL or Dota 2 players. Maybe because I'm better at LoL and dota 2... So the "top" athletes don't seem as super human to me and some crazy russian zerg rushing at 300 APM.
I honestly have no idea.
I like watching LoL rather than playing it for some reason.
Worlds this year seemed kind of meh to me.. the game was a complete stomp 0-3
Yeah, some of us think the same thing about people who still hang on to MMOs.
The MMOs crowd has turned into a retirement community full of old women sitting around in rocking chairs pining over their long-dead husbands. Talk about depressing.
I really enjoyed this year's worlds, I have been following SKT T1 since they debuted in Korea. The games were great too, each region brought something different to the table and it was fantastic seeing how the metas do against each other. It was also amazing to see how quickly player adapted and improve during the worlds event.
However I believe many felt disappointed because there was no Cinderella story this time around. Last year TPA, an unknown team from SEA managed to sneak under the radar and overwhelmed many strong teams and drew a strong following. Eventually beating Korea in the finals taking home the Cup.
SKT T1 came in as one of the favourites and they won.

its funny really, i feel the exact same way about professional sports (and esports) as most of you seem to feel about esports. ive just never really gotten it. mostly if what im watching isn't engaging for me, then i find something that is, which is usually a video game or a good book.

except for the fact that they are both denim and both pants ... i fail to see the resemblance, look a little closer.
