Why does no one play tanks in these types of games ? I've been waiting for over an hour for a group on my dps.
I just don't understand why more people don't play tank class , is it hard or something ?
Because you are expected to play flawlessly, where the rest can underachieve at times without consequences it's 1 mistake from the tank and the group gets whiped, all resulting in a 'flame the tank' war, and many players don't have the need to be on the receiving end thus they play the easiest role.
Couldn't agree more Muke. Bad attitudes is what lands most tank players I know to only run with guildies. Impatient and entitled players have been my experience in group pugs across numerous mmos. If you want a tank so bad OP: roll one, befriend one, or join a guild with some.
Cheers!
This.
It's not particular to this game either,it happens in every MMORPG with tank classes.I love playing tanks when available but will only tank for in guild groups these days.PUG groups tend to blame their mistakes on the tank (or healer) and expect flawless execution from the tank at all times and for the tank to lead even on their first time in a instance.
This has been the experience of most other people that play tanks that I've talked to too. Most of us would rather play alts or do alternative tasks while waiting for guild groups to form rather than PUG.So if there's a lack of tanks for PUGS it's usually the fault of the community.
Just as a carry on from my post previous to yours.
Just went back in, queued for Ifrit hard mode again, got in, was main tanking it against the wall, like was agreed, then about 4 minutes in other tank starts bemoaning I'm not interrupting Eruption. Whole group has a go at me.
I've decided I won't be subbing, the community on Moogle is horrible, and I'm really soured to the end game concept, I think it should be removed or made completely casual with hardcore players on their own server away from people like me.
Okay let me get this right. You're main tanking on Ifrit HM. You're tanking against the wall. Not sure if I remember a wall being in there, but w/e. The off tank is yelling at you for interruptions. WTF is the off tank doing then? THEIR ONLY JOB IN THAT FIGHT IS INTERRUPT. lol
Now about your server issue. On the 15th (tomorrow) free transfers open up for five days. I would jump on that and try out the new server.
Know what you need to be doing and call others out if need be. I've had to do that a couple of times and it shuts them right down. There's a lot of bad players in FF14...tons of bad players. Don't take it personal. They think by shouting what they don't know they're talking about, the focus will shift off them for being horrible.
The majority of players I've run into that actually have a clue are normally patient and helpful. The speed runners that leveled doing FATE runs. Those are the ones to watch out for.
I would agree that most people seem to just think its okay to under-achieve and expect the tank to pick up slack. I've mostly just tanked story modes now and was having fun with that, mostly since i play with two friends, but the PUG often is a bit of a fail person. But tanks need to learn to call people out on it. Some preparation is a good idea, but tell people its a first run, and tell people if they are messing up.
When our archer PUG was constantly tagging mobs I had marked as #2 or 3 and kept DPSing them madly even while I was trying to get them back, I let them know that marks are up for a reason. A couple of pulls later things worked better.
Then some other pug during ifrit began spamming big nukes the second I pulled, which led to them tanking ifrit with their face for a good 30 seconds while I was spamming every aggro-gainer I had at that point, while they spammed their full-on dps rotation over and over. Once I had the mob back, i had no trouble keeping it locked down, but basic things like this really should not happen, especially when you are in the n-th dungeon that was mandated in story mode, and when you have aggro indicators by default.
So yeah, when people flame, remember that you are in demand. Do some homework, but when people mess up, call them out on it and defend yourself.
I do plan to tank in more upcoming MMOs, because it is rather fun. But I also try and get in early on them to try and avoid the "OMG know your fights!!!" complaints when doing first runs. Then again, idiot DPS probably wont care if the game just launched and expect tanks to watch beta footage to know the fights ahead of time
Tanking is not ez. I've been main tanking since beta p3. I took a month off though, to level maradur and conjurer for some abilities. I've been following this tanking guide on the official forumns. Even got my macros set up and know they work. I thought after I got those abilities it would help me hold hate better.
But for some reason, today I ran AV and just could not control hate at all. Like everytime I pulled while the mobs were getting in range, and right as I would cast flash, one of the mobs would usually run strait for another member. At that point I flashed like 2, or 3 times anyways and then switched to the one I lost control on.
I would then use my provoke + shield lob macro, and that wouldn't get hate back. I even tried to spam shield lob over and over. Even tried flash, and nothing.
My gear is like this, I got a darklight weapon and shield from WP, along with some other pieces from there. I got darlight gloves, rest of my gear is lvl 47+. I was doing AV which was a lvl 47 dungeon, so I think I was fine on gear at least. Maybe I need to work on my skill rotation more?
Kinda weird I couldn't hold hate, cause I actually tanked Ultima Weapon with a party of 8 and was able to hold hate the entire time...
Maybe that's why ther's not a lot of tanks, maybe a lot of others are having a hard time controlling hate like I am. I wish I could figure out how to control hate better, but some days it just doesn't pan out. Ocasionally though I do hold hate pretty good with a group.
And here all this time while leveling conjurer, I was getting mad because other tanks just couldn't hold hate, and now i'm doing the same thing
I always play a tank in MMOs. It's one of the most rewarding and challenging positions in my opinion. I get bored FAST and need to be bombarded with information constantly to keep entertained. Tanking is one way of pleasing my overactive and ADD riddled mind. Everyone has their reasons, that is mine. Hope I see you in game. GL.

Tanking isnt hard, but it can be made to be hard work, as a rule, if a DPS draws aggro away from the Tank, their probably attacking the wrong mob, at that point its probably too late to do anything about it, so the sensible thing to do is ignore it, the DPS will either kill the mob, or he'll die and the mob will return to the tank, it will take longer to deal with the mobs but at the end of that fight the guy can be rezzed, and hopefully a lesson will be learned.
Tanking, DPS'ing Healing is not hard work, but it does require teamwork, and i think thats where people tend to trip up. The problem is that as the Tank your under a bit more pressure as the others in the group are generally following your lead, for some that can be more stressful than others.
I love playing tank; sadly with the way they're treated I have little to no desire to actually play one. If I wanted to get yelled at by 12 year olds about every single tiny mistake I've made, I'd go play Counter-Strike, League of Legends, or Call of Duty's online MP.
Same things and now even worse is in Wow LOLFR. Every single mistake made by dps/healers - blame tanks and kick them. I wonder if same people switched over FFIXV...

To be fair, I can give you 10000s of examples of times that I have seen DPS/healers give shit to the tank in multiple MMOs after he/she screwed up a pull and caused a wipe, followed by a "its my first time here" etc etc..
I can count on one hand the mount of times I have seen a tank get shat on after announcing it was their first time there and ask for guidance, before the pull.
I have 6 max level toons in WoW, 3 healers, 2 tanks, and 1 DPS.....and believe me, I let lose after the tank pulls, causes a wipe, then says "its my first time here" after the fact.

People do not understanding in FFXIV.... so that is why in FFXIV tanking is way harder then any other mmo so ye that is why i think
