Well yeah but if you look at the Dead Linger on steam and watch the gameplay video it's extremely early in the games development and you can see that. I mean in one part of the video the character is running and equips a hammer and it's not even in their hand just floating above it. Buying into that game, would just mean that you were helping them and hoped that it would turn out good, at least purchasing in at that early of a stage.
7 Days 2 Die is way further into development than The Dead Linger so it's a little different.
I think a lot of people are starting to discover that reality about these 'indie' games. How many of these grand MMORPGs or multiplayer RPGs actually become anything?
I'll name a few: Don't Starve, Kerbel Space Program, Day Z, oh yeah, and that little game called Minecraft.
Out of how many indies? Hundreds? That's a really awful success rate.

I ran into that problem also with the USA first download server . I scrolled to the bottom and it worked fine and also europe worked as well but was too slow a download speed. As for the game being in alpha , the game is pretty damn good though i did find a easy mode bug with farming , they grow to damn fast and you can use jars in a single water source with a bucket to have infinite water supplies as long as you have jars which kinda makes the game too easy. I do really like how zombies continue to claw and bite at walls until eventually they crumble so you have to go clear them out daily from your bases. Still Im enjoying the game, 35 bucks was well worth it to me honestly even if the game just stays like this though they are already about to release alpha 2.0

List is not exclusive...just off the top of my head. Of course I don't purchase every indie game developed. Some don't have the game play I like, others I don't even hear about, and yes, some aren't in a playable state. I have a few trusted sources who feed me news about good games, so that cuts down on the duds.
To be honest, I've played more failures from AAA companies than I have indie games.
Originally posted by psiic finally got a download link that works, hoping I didnt waste $35 the games forums sure look like they have a lot of issues keeping servers working.
I think they're being overwhelmed with unexpected numbers. Yogscast is doing a series on this game right now, and it's a big hit. So I imagine thousands of people might be trying to get this game.
Yeah the game is pretty fun to play with friends but it gets dull playing solo. If you rather play solo I recommend Don't Starve instead. I've put in over 150 hours in that game and have a lot more new things to explore since the last 2 big updates. To me 7 days to Die isn't going to get your money's worth, not yet anyway. The updates are really slow(still a lot of bugs and no huge world nor generated world) and they are far from adding the great things they promised.
Even with crowd-funding, who's to say the game will make it to release?
$35.00 gets you instant alpha access with free updates for life.. but what if the life of the game is only a few months?
Don't really see this working out well for them at that price even after they have their crowd-funding. Why so much to join a funded, alpha stage game?
Because it's an indie title...they don't have huge backing. Sure there is crowd funding, but you're essentially investing in the game with the $35.
If I had back half the money I have put into "indi" alpha stage, buy to play with lifetime updates promises, I wouldn't be working any more. I will give it props for how it looks, and the game play sounds fun, but I think I will wait around for gold edition.

Are you suggesting that anything in that mixed bag of random game titles are anything like the kitchen sink feature list dream games being peddled by "indie" devs. Examples: Divergence, 7 Days 2 Die, Xsyon
I did not say indie devs can't make a successful game. Each game you listed, most of which weren't MMORPGs and one not even multiplayer, had a realistic scope and experienced devs. However, when it comes to MMORPGs, the track record for indie devs is abysmal, with success being rather inversely proportional to how grand the feature list is.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre

Day Z is a MMO, Minecraft is an MMO and a multiplayer game. As I said, this list isn't exclusive, just games off the top of my head. Experienced devs can still form an indie company...they're not precluded from such. But I get the sense you need to win some kind of argument here? Myself and the OP were simply recommending 7 Days 2 Die for those looking for something different, rather than complain about there being no innovative games. If you don't want to play it then don't. No need to get all confrontational.
