Gender locking is the first thing that turns me away from any MMO. I have always found it pointless when the game developers force players to choose race/sex based on a specific class. If I want to play an Elf female healer wielding a two handed sword I should be able to (just an example).
Not manny MMO allow you to play a heal with a two-handed sword...
I don't think it matters a lot, problem may be the fact some of you want to create the same char on each game you play "female wizard and nothing else" to repeat what someone said. When i see this, the problem I see is that you are not open minded.
Black desert is trying to bring new aspect of MMO we don't see elsewhere (and yeah they don't use some that most gamers like, they should probably change that for their own benefit ^^) so let's give it a chance.
Char restriction is allways disappointing, but you can do with it (I just started Dragn Age Inquisition and can't create a beautiful lady, so i had to create a male character, that doesn't make me like the univers less, great game indeed ^^)
And if you are all coming to this forum you must at least have a bit of an interest for this game? Or are you just waiting for a new post to be created so that you can tell bad things about the game?
Men and women are different, I don't think it's that terrible to have gender based classes. Unless you are homophobic and fear being hit on I don't see the problem.
This "everyone should be the same" idea is an american one, which is fine but don't shoehorn your ideals on the rest of the world. This is a Korean game, see it as such.
If the creators world has social reasons for different genders, races or characters from certain regions not being able to be part of a certain role or job that is fine with me. If they allow PCs to "be the exception" then we will have 1000 Drizzts running around.
If there is no in game reason for it and the creator is doing it from their own sense of bias and discrimination then that is a problem.
We can also said the exact opposite ^^' What reason could it be to have both gender play the same role ^^' it can be role play to tells only male could learn magic and became wizard, so women who had high mana learn another way and became sorceress.
Plus i don't think it's discriminations, it's an unreal universe, doesn't really matter. In reality they were really a few lady knight in comparison of male knight and half player on mmo on mmo are lady knight in armor protecting nothing but their boobs. This shouldn't have exist and is probably more of a problem while being present in a mmo than while being absent, it's more of discrimination this way ^^'
Not being able to play a male archer is no big deal...
The game doesn't really have gender locking. Most classes have an opposite gender counterpart (i.e. Witch/Wizard are the same class). The only ones that don't really are the Berserker and Sorceror.
The Dev's have already stated that they will make both genders for all classes.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Ugh, that is disappointing to me. I struggle in each game I play to create a unique character. Will still look at this game, but it lessens the hype for me.

I assume it was one so that they didn't have to do extra animations, which is shit. Will be nice when technology allows for much more fluid actions in games.
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures
I hate it because to me it limits the characters I can be, I play to BECOME my character so I don't play females. And Asian developers do this because it's how they see the different roles men and woman take in life, Its a sexist vision really. You WILL only see this in asian mmos but if someone has one that isn't post it and I will insert foot in mouth. And I actually read this somewhere here before I just can remember what post but found it very interesting. Ever wonder why Females are always a caster or bow type class lol are they not strong enough to be warriors?

Gender locking can be interresting, if you play an asian combat mmo you can't see girls as monk, cause monk in real world are only male. It is the same here by creating gender lock they create an identity for some groupes of person, throughout history their have been a lot of groups of just men or women (most of just men ^^).
I don't really think it's a problem if they don't apply it for all classes.
If they have gender locks in the released version, it will have the same gender locks in the western version. It's not like they are going to add content for the west that isn't in the east.

Have a nice day

it actually was part of mmos a long time ago.... in a galaxy far, far away

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Could care less about it. Fine mechanic that makes sense sometimes.

Otherwise, "yeah" I don't have a problem with gender locking classes. Then again I don't have to think of the character as an extension of myself.
