Why do people compare Diablo with GW????

DevnantDevnant Member Posts: 24

Appart from the fact you can only play with humans, and the fast paced action present in both games, I find no other similarities.

In Diablo there is:

- a lot of grinding

- incredible rare items which are hard to find

-unbalanced skills (some are completely useless, some are incredibly powerfull)

These are main characteristics of Diablo that are present in most MMORPGs (WoW? anyone?).

In Guild Wars there is:

- no grinding

- balanced items

- balanced skills (some may be useless BUT, in a lower scale than other online games)

My point being is: Guild Wars and Diablo are totally different games. They only look alike superficially. So why do people keep saying GW is Diablo 3??? Diablo´s style of playing actually fells more like other MMORPGs (WoW) than it does with Guild Wars (grinding, building up incredibly powerfull chars, etc...).

What say you who actually played both games?

I can give you 2 reasons why GW is compared to Diablo:

    1. No crafting

    2. Both are no MMORPG's

chrisel, your opinion doesn´t count. You just gave proof that you never played Guild Wars. No crafting??????? You gotta be joking. Read the topic before flaming please.

I mentioned THOSE WHO ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME TO GIVE THEIR OPINIONS! ! !

    Thank you.

In GW you can explore the land and interact with people and the surroundings more than Diablo.  Um Diablo you travel a straight line most of the time, and at the end of that line waits the end boss.  GW more variety, you can either be a girl or boy necro in GW.  Even though GW is not really a MMO its hardly like Diablo.

Well, i didnt play it long enough to discover its "crafting". Got to lvl 4, with pain & agony. The game is fully comparable to Diablo 2 anyways.

The biggest element that makes it like Diablo 2 is this: You start off in a meeting chat area (GW: Towns, Diablo: Battle.NET) then you go off into your own instanced game with people of your choosing. Then there's that thing where some of the same devs who worked on Diablo II worked on GW.

There's your reason people make the comparison.

LMFAO!!! you played for about an hour then. Buddy, you need to hang it up. You seriously don't know what you're talking about.

The only real similarity between the two games is the heavy reliance on instanced zones. Granted, that's a pretty important feature. However, if you have to be compared to something, you could pick much worse games than Diablo2.

Edit: oh, and there needs to be more options in the poll. This is not a yes or no kind of deal. There needs to be more grey area responses. Heck, I could argue that GW is like Half Life; They're both computer games...

    can't believe im the first with this similarity;

DiabloII and GW are both FREE to play online...

this truly is the greatest feature of this game, think to all those subscription games you've played, how much pressure was put on the dev's and designers from both sides because of the fee.  The dev's did a great job on GW I am so glad I tried it.  I've cancelled all my subscription games and just play GW now.

The game loads really fast, you can jump right in, do a quest or whatever and have fun in a short amount of time.  You don't have to spend 8 hr days at the computer just so that one day a month away you can do the "fun" things you want to do.

The crafting is so simple I would hardly call it crafting. Its more like "buying" from a smith. You just have to bring a piece of wood or some ingot, pay XXX gold, then you have an item in return.

.. and the only way this differs from the usual crafting system is the lack of several skill grinds and countless amounts of currency, and hours spent. So what, truly, is the huge difference that makes it so much worse?

I think GW is like diablo 2 and I play guild wars...  Diablo 2 doesn't really have any grinding... Maybe 1day of grinding... Since most people plan their charaters to lvl 75-80 that is where the true endgame is.  You can get to that lvl in a day.

But I say it's like diablo because of the fast fighting style, with the click action.  But the main reason I say it is like Diablo is because I see GW as a game you can play for a while, quit and easily come back to... Hell you could delete your chars and uninstall GW from your computer.  Then a month later reinstal and be back to end game in a week.  I'd guess any person that's played diablo done that.  That is something you can't do with any MMO, you take off for a month and your a month behind.

Much like diablo 2 is, I see GW being peoples "between MMOs" game of choice.  Which is great IMO... I hate the way MMO make players feel forced to play.

Well, one reason is that some of the development team were involved in making Diablo 2, and there are some similarites like henchmen. There are definitely similarities, but it has more in common with MMORPG's than Diablo 2. Much of the best in Diablo 2, the best ever selling RPG style PC only game in North America is seen in GW.

The main reason on these boardsy ou see it being compared to Diablo 2 in the form of a putdown is simply because there are alot of people that haven't played the game, but want to put it down because it outrates their favorite game on the front page, and their minds are too underdeveloped to comprehend the possibility that there is more than one good game out there.
