So i was looking at the stx for them and 180 is abit too much so i was wondering if there was any other good sound cards for a 2.1 system and at a reasonable price say 80-100. Been looking around and the only one i see is Xonar DX

Realistically, its unnecessary to get a Sound Card. The Chip on your mobo should be sufficient for anything thrown at it since the calculations needed to replay sounds are not taxing. Sound is only needs to be producible from 20Hz to 41k Hz. This was achieved decades ago. From there is been about mixing hundreds of sounds together which is within the capability of the Realtek chips on most mobo.

Out of the choices for chips you have ASUS, Creative, VIA, and Realtek. Anything C-Media is going to be about 8 years old since ASUS bought them out. Creative has been notorious. VIA does not really update. You probably already have a Realtek chip. So the only choice is ASUS.

if you want sound quality for headphones or a 2.0 setup, buy this http://hifimediy.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=62&product_id=92 and maybe a headphone amplifier, if your headphone requires more power to be driven.

If you want those digitals enhancement for gaming, emulated surround, etc. I'd go with Creative.

IMO, a sound card is only needed if you are into sound quality for listening to music, If not, your onboard is good enough.
