looks good to me, I like the f2p system myself and hope its not p2w.

been signed up for Beta for well over 2 yrs.  Hopefully we see some more melee/alternative combat (not magic, but something like it) soon

That's the wrong way to look at it, and that's not how it works in The Repopulation. The devs have packages similar to a box fee, so you pay one time for your bag and bank slots. Also they are a  small indie, F2P is the only way they will be able to survive. Every single game that was subscription based  has gone F2P except WOW and EVE, and they can only do so because they released long ago. Conan, LOTRO, RIFT, Secret World, AION, SWTOR, Vanguard, Fallen Earth, Everquest2. TERA... everyone has went F2P. It's actually ridiculous to hear people complain about F2P when almost every mmo already is. I'd rather them be F2P and survive, than charge sub fees like Darkfall and fail, then try to reboot the game when they run out of money/subs. TESO and EQNext will go F2P eventually as well. Subscription merely means, "We will sell boxes and  a monthly subscription fee till money stops coming in, and then go F2P". Haven't you anti-F2P people figured that out yet?

Yes most sub games have failed lately, due to being poorly designed and/or half-finished (or just got old), and not because there is something inherently wrong with sub model. The casualization of mmo's is the reason subs aren't holding. Games are made to be single-player 3 month disposable nowadays. If games were being made with mechanics to keep players longer, subs would work fine. It seems that the Repop would be a good design for subs with the world-building, crafting, territory control pvp, etc. and would make for a more long term experience. And for all you anti-sub people, how long til you start to complain about pay to win cash shop, or lack of development, cust service, added content because the majority of the playerbase won't spend a dime to play?

Sorry to rant, but I just don't see how people can complain about 50 cents a day to get the whole game, instead of nickle and dimed to death or ptw. Is a game that isn't worth 15/month even worth playing for free? If a game sucks bad enough that I won't pay 50 cents per day, then I wouldn't want to play it even if it was free.

Absolutely, you said just about what I was about to. Sub games have failed the past few years due to being WoW clones, and half finished games. There's nothing wrong with subscription based games. The game has to be good enough to warrant a subscription fee or no one will want to play or pay it.

Some skill based support in combat from non-combat types would be fun. Using machines with engineering skills for example, sonic to disorient foes, flying probes to find enemies (scout), fixing damaged gear/weapons/vehicles. Get the crafter/builder types into combat. Not sure if any of that is possible in game, as I haven't looked into game much yet.

The problem with indie developers, is they do not have enough staff to produce decent content.   Features are always promised, but for some reason or other never make it into the game.  Have to wait and see what makes it into release.  The trailer does not show much, have to wait and see gameplay footage on utube to get a feeling for the game.

My take exactly, they must be using the geriatric engine they move like senior citizens. Is this a na developer cause it looks like it? To bad everything else looks decent.

The F2P  vs P2P horse has been beaten to death..... Then sliced into small pieces, stitched back together, brought back to life as some frankenstien-esque  monster, killed again, burned to ashes, smashed under high pressure into a diamond, then shattered with a hammer-strike at the perfect angle.

The argument comes down to weather all the games that have gone to the F2P model did so because it is superior, or did so because they are bad. Which is an answer neither side will EVER agree on.

To get back to the point of the actual thread. I'm excited for the Repop, but I don't think it will ever happen. It's looking more and more like a Sci-Fi MMO failure. It'll release a year late with half it's proposed features, they will struggle to fix the game-breaking bugs and lack of content post launch, and the game will bleed players and money until the game is held up only by a few devoted players who will keep the game alive, but wont allow any actual development until it's just another name on the MMORPG.com list of games that no one ever plays and most people have never heard of.

It's the SAME story as all the others.........

Hell they had to give FFXIV another ENTIRE DEVELOPMENT CYCLE to fix that crap-fest and it's still no-where NEAR the best games out there...... It prolly doesn't even make the top 20 and it's one of the best 2 or 3 MMO"s on the market right now.

The whole genera is filled with trash.

You say this as if FFXIV didn't already fail and reboot, remember that? And as if  FFXI wasn't  10+ years old  and almost dead.

Looking good.  Not quite my preferred style of gaming, but I'm still quite excited to play.

Nope. And as we represent a good percentage of the money that's out there, there will eventually come a point where all the F2P trash won't be able to pay their bills due to nothing but the freeloaders playing and nobody paying. I have plenty to money to spend, as do many of us, yet I'm playing SWG on an emulator because there is frankly nothing in the current generation of games worth playing and the few that garner mild interest are all nickel/dime cash shop tripe.

So no, I guess we just haven't figured it out yet.

Most people on this site used to be so crazed for a bit of freedom/virtual world stuff clunky combat and payment model would not mean much. Are you all super thrilled with no freedom linear themeparks? It would seem so based on these comments. I'm sure this game will have a sub option...there payment model debate fixed.

I do agree that the combat needs work and the graphics are a bit dated. We will see how it ends up at release.

That's quite funny. You appear to be arguing for the P2P model and yet are boasting about playing a F2P game.

They are some jokesters for sure. Just like the last guy boosting about  Final Fantasy subscription, yet the game already failed once with it lol.

The building aspect looks interesting but I'm afraid by the time they get to an acceptable amount of polish I will loose interest in favor of other sandbox games.

Its all about gameplay in the end, but I can ignore the fact that it looks dated in a big way.

I'm going to challenge the 10 year old part, at least on the character art.  I went back and looked at some Tabula Rasa vids that I have stashed on file server, and I think Repop has pretty much matched their characters.  TR is only 5 years old.

Ditto on great gameplay carrying a game with dated graphics.  I'd much rather play something I enjoy, and do considering that Morrowind is still on my play regularly list... and that's seriously dated in terms of characters.

Have you been under a rock for the last few years? SWG emulated isn't a F2P game, it's privately emulated. There is no cash shop. The point is that I'm not playing or spending money in any of these wonderful F2P dung piles that you so elegantly claim are the wave of the future. But I get it, you have to try and spin things to support your narrow view.

I think he just meant the emulator doesn't have a subscription price attached to it and is free if you own the game. A good game is a good game, whether it's free, F2P or paid subscription doesn't really matter to me. The ZOMG EPIC FAIL IT'S F2P thing is pretty dumb, it's free to try, make your opinions based off trying the game first, is all I am saying. No one forces you to spend one penny in F2P games. I can max level in Aion and Conan without paying a penny, it's still pretty much the same game people were paying subscription for years ago, except with more people to play with.
