As a gamer in the end the PS4 is still the overall better console especially if your planning on playing mmos on a console.  Destiny will have exclusive content for PS4.  Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn, Planetside 2 and DC Universe will be on PS4.  And it will eventually probably will have Everquest Next since SoE is using the same engine as Planetside 2 and going for an action oriented combat system. It will have other multi-player games like Warframe and Dust.

Its got the better hardware which I would trust more with mmo games performance and graphics.  And the graphics difference which clearly shows on the battlefield 4 comparisons recently.

When it comes to exclusives in general I dont care for the launch day exclusives, I care for which one might have the better exclusives in each consoles life span.  And looking back at the current gens lifespans, PS3 had much more variety and better exclusives with MGS4, The Last of Us, Beyond Two Souls, Uncharted, Demons Souls, God of War 3 and Ascension, Gran Tourismo, Infamous, Journey, Killzone 2-3, Kingdom Hearts HD Remix, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, Tales of Xillia, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and of course more mmos.

Sony still havent revealed all the PS4 exclusives.  People who are concerned about this mp3 thing are a minority/niche like the people who complain about WoW on this website.  OP you pick the weakest thing to pick on PS4, Xbox One has worse flaws than this which are clearly talked about all over the internet since its announcement.  I dont see you talking about any of those on these forums.

Unless sony has a good reason, as in it can cause errors by introducing bugs/viruses...but if its a personal decusion and not for a good reason then sony are morons.

You simply do not go against simple trends that add a lot of value when storage is getting cheaper and larger, and games are getting larger as well with huge online updates.

Won't affect me, but I can see how some people could be annoyed with any of these limitations.

With how many different computing devices we have, I feel like what we really need eventually is something like iCloud box MS is pushing, but execution is everything.  More or less a central data hub that syncs everything up without us having to do anything and gives us access to all our 'stuff' no matter where we are or what device we are using.

PS4 will not be ready for that day, but it could be several years away, so it may not ever become relevant.

Games is what matters and right now Sony has got nothing exciting. There is actually no reason to own a PS4 until maybe Naughty Dog releases the next Uncharted and that might be awhile.

Neither did ps3 when it launched. Those features are all software/firmware updates away. They probably didnt have time to have that stuff ready for launch. Most likely it that stuff will show up in later updates. I don't think any of those features are must have on day one but thats just me.

    Not surprising at all.

You know that Sony Music Entertainment is currently the second largest music company behind Universal Music Group. Of cause they want to put a lid on this MP3 problem that is eating away their profits. No surprise here, but rest easy, they are struggling as it is and eventually will cave.

    Damnit. [Expletive...Expletive.]

I don't want to go with microsoft or microsoft products. But if this is the case, then my PS4 simply can't be my complete home entertainment system like I was really hoping it would be. :(

I could care less whether it plays mp3's i've already got ways to play them.

I want a PS4 for one thing.....dont be shocked by this...but its to PLAY GAMES.

If you dont buy a PS4 only because of this then your really not a gamer. Consoles should focus on gaming period.

I would think external storage would be more meaningful then playing .mp3's.

    That was my "no-no."

Why is Windows 8 bad for games?   I havent had any issue playing any game ive put on it at all.

MP3's on the PS4 sure it would be cool, but its something they can patch in down the road ( like proper bluetooth support). You can upgrade the internal hard drive yourself, which will be faster than anything USB and external you could throw on it so thats also a good thing.

I think most people using pandora anymore anyway so as long as that function is somehow included most of the masses will be pleased ( DLNA and transferring .MP3's seems to be a mostly techy thing anyway)

Just normal SATA hard drives, no storage limit, 5400 rpm or faster.   it comes with 500gb included,   SO you can buy a SSD and slap it into your ps4 and get super fast load times. just like a pc.    xbone will be limited to transfer speed of USB 2.x ( possibly 3.x in the future)

Xbone wont even support external HDD at first ( comes in a later patch  or soon in industry terms),   so your limited to the 500gb they give you. so it might play mp3s and some movies, but your space is limited if you install a few games.

Further to include Xbone didnt include their media server like they had in xbox 360, so it seems they also arent supporting the playing of mp3's or downloaded enteratinment of questionable content.

Naturally of course these things being computers ( more or less), these features could be patched in and supported at a later time, even external support on the PS4.

Another reason why P.c s are better then consoles.

    Current games;
    Star treck online
    Rift
    Eve online
    Firefall

Who cares. I don't listen to music on a console. Got my laptop for that.

@lol at they guy saying that windows 8 was not good at gaming. I wonder what I have been doing in the pas year then? Cause I have never had any problems with playing games on Windows 8. Windows 8 is exactly the same OS as Windows 7 less one stupid start menu which is not needed at all anyway. Win8 uses runs faster than wkn7.

Sony isn't any different from Microsoft, other than they pull far fewer PR suicide blunders. They're going to see what they can get away with whenever they think they can, like charging for some online services that they used to offer for no charge with the PS3.

Netflix and Amazon instant video streaming services will still be supported on the PS4.

As another poster noted handhelds, tablets and other devices are supporting DLNA.

Sony has made a considerable amount of changes towards the PS4 and and its strategies clearly from the lessons they learned from the PS3.  Frankly, this is a gaming console first and foremost.  Not a media server and mostly definitely not a Linux device.  Sony is targeting gamers for its gaming console.  Not persnickety techie types that hopefully are resourceful enough anyway to find other ways to have and use DLNA.

Dude!  PC's aren't better than consoles.  Why, you ask?  Because they are the same yet different.  A console is a gaming specific PC.  And a PC is a PC.

Every console will cost you the same price and be the same.  ( Not counting optional goodies extra drive space etc.)

A PC can be a cheap ass piece of crap, all the way up to a liquid cooled monster!   They are designed to do many other things but will generally cost you twice as much to play the same games.

So don't say one is better than the other when they can't really be compared.

Is a car better than a motorcycle?  Sure it has 4 wheels and a roof.  Is it as cheap or fast as a motorcycle?  No because the motorcycle is designed to be fast and less expensive.   Two different things.

So please, lets all get over this PC is better than console crap.  Its irrelevant here.

Now if you want to say PS4 is better than XBone, then by all means, be my guest!

I actually use my 360 to stream mp3's and movies all the time from my pc.  I thought it was a pretty good solution, since it's hooked up to my receiver and speakers.  After all the mess with the Xbox One, I was going to get a PS4 and let that be the one device I have to mess with at any given moment.  Now I'm not sure what I'm going to do, although the Roku could probably handle all those duties.

Just when I think I'm finally paring down the junk I've got attached to my tv...

Yea I do the same with my 360.  Its pretty convenient to do it that way for sure.

Truth be told, I really don't have a good reason to buy either console at this point.  I got a ton of stuff left to play on the 360, and that isn't even including GTA 5!

Always best to wait awhile on these things anyway.  Just be to be sure there are no red rings of death and maybe save a few bucks as well.  No MP3, would not be a deal breaker for me tho.  I didn't even know what the 360 could do when I bought it,  thought it just played games, LOL!!  That's why you buy 'em, the rest is gravy.

I mean really at this point, I have seen enough things wrong with both next gen consoles. I was all gun ho about getting a console too. I thought for sure they are going to make them every bit as good as pc's are, but they just aren't and they won't be either. I have canceled my preorders and am in the process of a pc "master race" build. Consoles had a chance and I was really rooting for them, but they messed it up, oh well farewell. I will keep my ps3 and play cod with my irl friends on the weekends and get my real gaming fix on my pc the rest of the time.

It does for me . . going to cancel my preorder tomorrow and look more at a SteamBox set up (even if I make my own).  No DLNA support sucks. . the one thing I hate about the ROKU.  I have to run a "server" just to access video and music files on my network storage.

Yea I actually built ( or at least paid someone to) my first gaming rig over the summer.   I was happy enough with my console and the big screen gaming there, but I felt I wanted to enhance my PC gaming, as up to now I have always been gaming on more or less off the shelf PC's and not the best ones at that.

I think the performance jump was a large one between the last group of consoles.  I don't see as much difference to me this time.  At least not from a gameplay perspective.

So even tho I spent twice as much on a new PC, I am pretty content with my gaming capabilities for a little while at least.  Hope that makes the console haters out there a little happier.

I am buying a console to play games, so mp3 music or external hard drivers doesn't matter to me. I am looking forward to playing Japanese imports on my PS4, which is not a strong point for Xbox.

Sony has been tanking in the markets for a long time now.. so i'm not surprised Sony will milk the PS4 as much as they can.

Its their only hope to survive.
