the only mmo i still play after hitting level cap is GW2 (and sometimes WoW when i feel like paying a sub), because i make other characters and look for different things to do to level the alts. MMOs dont offer interesting content at max level, or should i say content that interests me personally. If an mmo offers many races with different Lore behind each race and different leveling maps based on each race's culture and habitat i will be playing that game for a long time. I usually dont play mmos to grind content, i play to learn about the lore, have fun with different types of content, among other things.
If your mmo doesnt offer me that quality of life content to keep me interested in the entire game instead of just the max level stuff then dont ask why i left so soon. Its ovbious the game lacks longevity when it only focuses on "hitting lvl cap to join the (not so fun) fun never ending gear grind".
Honestly mmo devs really need more alternative content that is relevant at max level. Raids and PvP is not enough and clearly not for everyone.
I love the journey and have zero interest in end game (except for Camelot), so I always do this. Once I hit max level in any game, I either move on or reroll. The exceptions for me have all been pre- 2003 or sandboxes which have no real endgame or levels.
I have managed to acquire the uncanny ability to drag out the journey for years sometimes, even while others get er done in a couple of weeks For my playstyle, it pays to be pokey!!

I quit playing old republic at level 30 saw the game was just a WoW clone and there was zero content. Glad I did not waste anymore time on that one as it became a ghost town a month later.
Usually if I make it to cap I will stick around at max for a while or at least reroll an alt since the leveling was fun. GW2 comes to mind as one I quit almost instantly after hitting 80. I can't say the gameplay ever changed from lvl 1 to lvl 80 and I was already bored of it by the time I had finished the journey.
Unfortunate thing is there's hardly any roses to even stop and smell if you want to take your time.
Unless you want to thrill at the fact that the ground in the area you are in is brown instead of green now, while an npc tells you to collect 8 mob drops.
I have done that with Rift, GW2 and WoW, though with WoW I did make a bunch of alts, but I really didn't feel like raiding in that game, unlike EQ2 where I was in a raiding guild and SWG where there was still a ton to do "endgame" that I kept playing and playing and playing.

So I'm guessing it is just the basic gameplay itself that keeps you playing and not the features of the game themselves? That is what seems to stand out from that list of games. WoW and GW2 feel more like AAA titles than those others while you are actually playing your character.

I pl. Mmos to enjoy the road and traveling to max level... Reaching max level is not my goal, enjoying stories lore, beautifull scenery and making friends while doing so is... Max level is often tough the end of a beautifull journey.
Endgame attitude is not my kind of stuff, so i often start a new journey in another game till there is an expansion that lures me back.
its all about attitude, if getting to max level and getting best ger is your only drive to play mmos then they will never work for you

I agree with this.
If all the game is leveling to cap and then grinding gear then that's not even remotely interesting.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
None.If I get to max level I usually spend a month or two to see how the end game plays out and thne make my decision or have it made for me by declining population/friends leaving.
Recently though I haven't been making it to max level as I've found the game play in the MMOs I've tried shallow and dull.
But that could also be because we are in a golden age of TV content and services.Back when I was a big hardcore MMORPG player television was shit with bad reality shows and bad sitcoms ruling the airwaves. There was maybe 1 or 2 show a week I watched.
Today I have to decide which shows I'm not gonna watch to make time for other activities including gaming in gneral because there are so many quality shows on and I have only so much free time.
Typically I get to right before max level then realize there is nothing left to do or see but run the same instances over and over and over and over and over............

Most modern theme parks in fact, soon as I get a character to max I've left incl. SWTOR, RIFT and TSW.
I'm just not into the gear grinding end games they all are centered around.

If I like a MMO enough to actually make it to level cap I will generally keep playing it after I cap.
Sadly, I haven't made it to level cap in a MMO in many years....

I always quit halfway to level cap

My computer is better than yours.
I was thinking about NWO and TSW.. I hear NWO is p2win and TSW is good until the end. Then nothing to do after that.
