The license deal between EA and Games Workshop expires at the end of the year., so it probably comes down to not being able to come to a deal on an extention.
Games Worksop appears to looking at a number of smaller projects that don't tie them as tightly to one studio.

I think EA just wanted it to die. I think they knew Games Workshops wasnt going to renew the IP license.
Better to let it bleed out and die instead of keeping it on life support.
And yes I will shed a tear when it shuts down, even thinking about it sucks.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

People have said the same of other games but there will still be people playing and enjoying them even when the majority thinks of them as dead.
Warhammer Online could have lived longer if it weren't for the ties to GW.
This is exactly how I feel.
EA definitely caused this game to fail to bring in more players, but it's GW to blame for it being shut down so prematurely.
There are games no better with small populations that are still going. However, they aren't tied to the Warhammer IP.
It makes me concerned about any MMO that has ties to GW. AKA Eternal Crusade. I feel certain it will one day share the same fate.
