The game is definately worth buying. I'm sure you won't throw it away after playing for one week, that's for sure. The quests are often long and carry a storyline. The quests are very different from one another, so you won't get bored after doing a few. And, you can always join a PvP battle if you don't feel like doing a quest at that very moment.

Do not buy this game, its terrible! Its not even a MMORPG, and lack all major features a MMORPG should have to give a feeling of a VR world.

Look man, its compared to Diablo 2. Doesnt that speak for its self...?

Make us care MORE about our faction & world pvp!

Yes, buy it, its fun, you wont throw it away in a week, maybe 2-3, its worth it.

Chirsel, Diablo 2 was fantastic, Guild wars i feel is a very improved version of it.

Why do people seem to think GW has no longevity?  Simply because it only has 20 levels?  Hate to break it to you, but the game really gets good once you actually get to 20.  I can't see anyone getting to level 20 and getting sick of this game in less than a month definitely and less than a year even probable.
  • donaldduckdonaldduck Member UncommonPosts: 158

Ofcourse its worth it, even if you only play it for a month, you'll still get more value for money than most other games thesedays. No monthly fees so you can take your time exploring the world, trying out different characters and quests.

GW is quite possibly one of the best made and enjoyable pc games ever.

Value, and "is it worth buying" is in the eyes (or eye ::::14::) of the beholder. It totally depends on what you like to do in a game. You've read (I assume) forum posts, and can see people either love it, or hate it. It depends on what your looking for.

If your looking for a game to grind away for hours, days, weeks at harvesting, or crafting, or killing little bunnies to get that next level, so you can get that next set of bright and shiny things to play with, then you should go buy EQ or take a copy of SWG off on of the many po'd and disillusioned ex-SWG players. Many people say GW isn't a real mmorpg, cuz there isn't any rp in it. While it's true, there aren't any pubs, or cantinas to hang out in, or malls or shops to go to, there is the rp aspect of the missions which totally immerse you in the storyline. Yes, there is a story to the game. It seems like a lot of console kids and hack-n-slash jockies just build a level 20 out of the box and go jump into the pvp, and get bored after awhile. Most don't KNOW there is a story, and a tutorial, and exploration, etc. They also don't care for the level 20 cap, because they want to be more uber than everyone else, and in this game you can't. It's a level playing field (pun intended). You gain more skills by playing longer and exploring more, but since you can only use 8 at a time, it makes it strategy, not uberness that wins battles.

If your into crafting, then GW isn't for you. You can't craft uber weapons and sell for tons of gold. You can craft decent weps and the like, all you need to do is to aquire the resources, and have enough gold and viola, you've crafted. Most good weapons come off drops and collectors. Collectors will take 5 grall skulls, or snake heads, or water balloons, whatever they want to collect, and trade you useful items.

But if you like really cool graphics, nicely done character models, funny animations (some of the dances are just too hilarious to describe) and fast and furious gameplay, along with many interesting quests, then you'll like the game. Quests are varied in length, some short, some involving many steps. The ones in the beginning get you used to the game and how it works, as well as get you some decent beginner items, skills, etc. Once you go into the'real world' quests are everywhere. They lead you through the storyline, and to explore the world, which in turn leadds you to discover new places, new trainers and skills, etc.

I come from a long history of playing fps games, then traditional mmorpg's. I played all the bwe's for gw, and I preordered the game, and am still enjoying it immensly. I imagine once the world has been explored, it'll be time for an expansion pack to add more places to explore. But if you don't expand, you'll still be able to participate in the GvG and PvP, and help your Guild up the ladder to fame and noteriety!

And there is that no monthly fee thang! ::::08::

So, bottom line, YOU have to decide if it's worth buying. If you do, ask one of those who hate it after playing for a whole 2 hours if they'll give you theirs, and ask for their stuff too! ::::15::

Guild Wars is the game for you if you like being able to easily level up, an different skill system, strategically based, instead of cramming all of your most powerful skills together, (in my opinion) the best PvP of any game I have ever played, and of course a very smooth, polished looking game that runs great. But beware, if you don't think you will like PvP, then you may not like this game that much. As the level cap is 20, it does take the longgevity out of PvE somewhat. I have played since E3, in all the beta events, and having to do some of the missions I hate all over again for the billionth time almost made me cry :( But, the PvE is, for the most part, very fun, but, as I said, the game shines for me once you hit level 20 and find a nice guild.

Why would being compared to Diablo 2 be a bad thing? I thought that was an amazing game for the time. Sure, it's a bit dated now (although still very playable).

Some of the developers are from the Diablo 2 team, but that's about where the comparisons should end. Unless you feel that since monsters drop items in this game and in Diablo2, then they are exactly alike... oh wait, you also kill monsters in Diablo2, and you kill monsters in this game! You also level up.. you have skills.... omg, it's exaclty like Diablo2 now that I think of it!! (as are about 50 other games if this is how you are keeping score)

Comparing this game to Diablo2 is like comparing a VW bug to a Porche... they both have motors and four wheels...

Great game.. just find a friend with it and try it, you'll buy it.. ignore the WoW fanbois who are threatened by the game and the fear that they might be dishing out wads of cash each month for nothing. My suggestion to them is to keep playing your game and stop trying to scare people away from GW.. it's pathetic really.

Yes, you realy should buy it! Its a great game but not a play-all-the-time-without-getting-bored game so you should have a other game to play like once in a while like BF or CS or somthing... but thats just my idea::::28::

  • Evil_MoDoEvil_MoDo Member Posts: 72
yes buy it, dont listen to chrisel, he went to lvl 4 and stoped, its awesome, hard, and pvp is stragetic. thats it thats all, if you play wow, dont cancel it, can play them both when ur bored from 1 one or the other.

I don't know what you're talking about.  Can you seriously get bored with the game?  Over the weekend I played marathon 12-hour sessions and not once did I get bored.  As a matter of fact if I didn't have my wife I probably would have forgotten to eat and sleep altogether ;)

It's a bad thing because Guild Wars is receiving critical accolades, glowing player reviews, and massive sales forcing the WoW fanboys into this forum.

Its a very uniqe game, you ccan both explore the world, play scenarios. And play guild PvP tornaments. If you enjoy PvP you should give it a shot.
  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

Well i just got it today and at £17($US 32) i think this is a bargain considering I will not be paying monthly fees.

I could play it for a few weeks and get bored who knows but at that price I have gotten my money's worth.

Add to fact I can also comeback to it whenever i want since its free i think its one of the few mmorpg(if you can call it that) i can say as far as value rating goes is close to 10/10.

    It's definitely a fun game.

    MMORPG or not? WHO CARES!

There are a number of things they've done differently (and better) than many of tradition MMORPGs out there. It's not until you think about it that you notice they're gone. A number of the timesinks are gone. Travel between areas is quick and easy. If you totally blow a mission, you're not penalized forever. Leave the mission and the penalties are gone. No more having to play for hours to recover, lost items, corpse hunt, etc.

As for people saying it's too easy. HA! Ask them if they've played RP (PvE) and how far they've gone. One thing that can be fustrating for anyone who's used to the traditional MMORPGs is having all these skills available, but only being able to pick 8 for a mission. It really makes you think about the skills you're going to pick. Once you start a mission, you can't change them until you finish or quit the mission (unless you unlock new ones -- you can swap them out).

If and when you both pick it up and have tried it out, post back here what your impressions of the game were. Perhaps it'll help others who are on the fence decide.

Has anyone actually read "The GuildWars Manuscripts" that came with the box? It seems pretty long, considering reading it since I'm just that bored. ::::19::

  • TorakTorak Member Posts: 4,905

Yes the game is worth a try.

Sure it only has 20 levels but that is NOT the endgame. Its the begining. Unlike most all other games in this genre, you dont run out of things to do at 20, thing really just start.

The mission/quest system is by far, hands down,  better then anything else out there. You are actually part of an "epic" storyline. No go and kill 5,000 rats for me quest here. You also dont need to stand in the same corner of some drab dungeon for 100+ hours beating your head against the wall trying to level. Having to play a game for hundreds of hours before you are capable of participating in the endgame is not a merit IMHO.

So you dont run into random people throughout the game as it is mostly instanced. I dont know about you but I really only pay attention to the people Im grouped with or guildmates anyway. So you dont need to worry about someone trying to "camp" the same spot you are or grieing you. Get your friends and do the missions/quest. Its what you are doing anyway.

Some are saying its just Diablo. well....I dont agree with that, but so what? Diablo is one of the most successful PC games ever made. So compareing it is bad how??? Most games should be so luckyimage

If you can afford to do it, try Guild Wars first then try something like WoW or DAoC. Thats the only way I think you can really see how much more involved and fast paced this game is.
