Its not the point that you can jump on an emulator and play it a point the community for the game is gone and we lost everything we worked for.

You're going to lose everything you work for in every mmo.

When I left swg I had over 1 billion in credits and made 110 million a day. I used to sll them to gold sites ( back before I know what it did to games ) and bought my first house with money I made from the game. I also used to spend 14-18 hrs a day crafting and almost got a divorce over it.

It was a great game but all things come to an end. Move on and enjoy good memories. You can't live in the past forever.

People like you just never seem to get the point.  What you just said is the same thing as telling someone who read Lord of the Rings, and other great fantasy series like Raymond Feist's work, and now they're older and want more books >>> LIKE <<< those old awesome books, that they should just move on and get used to reading tripe like harry potter or twilight because thats whats popular and you're just behind the times and rose colored glasses and blah blah blah blah.

Its a hulking load of shit.  Thankfully the book world hasn't succumbed to what has happened in the movie and game world.  But we have every right to be pissed about it.

Yeah you're right, it's way better sitting on the porch talking about how everything used to be better and it's all a pile of shit now. I can see how that has some real up sides to it.

So you're suggesting we do something that we despise in order to avoid sitting on a porch reminsicing about good times?  Man, i can't wait till you get into your old age, maybe one day you'll finally understand how ridiculous you sound.

No, I think he's saying to move on with your life.  If you can find another game that you enjoy, then play it.  If not, then maybe it's time to get out into the real world and find something else you enjoy doing.  I don't see anything wrong with that philosophy.  Not sure why you felt the need to attack him for saying maybe you shouldn't waste so much effort complaining about things you DON'T like instead of finding something you DO like.

That being said, going out into the real world and reminiscing about older MMORPGs aren't mutually exclusive. I can have a healthy real world life and still hope that MMOs revert back to their better state.

Look we all deal with things in different ways. I don't think there was any ill intent anywhere and in general this game is one of the few that a good majority of MMO players agree about and miss.

I miss parts of it and wish other games were more like it.

For instance going to a private owned store and having the owner giving you service and assisting with your purchases.

Then proceeding to making a business deal with him in which you have to provide several items.

Then going on the hunt for said items, either directly or hiring a middle man or finding a cheap seller.

Stuff like that, make your own story and quests.

Or just grouping up with random strangers and actually talk to each other..

I really miss SWG also. Is still my favorite game (pc or console) of all time. Glad I got to play it from 2003-end. The Bria server had so many great people (and a lot of jerks too lol) and I would so love to go back in time in the game's heyday to just play an hour more..I am not asking for much right?

One thing they're not mutually exclusive.  Reminicing and moving on can be done at the same time and usually require each other.  And secondly there's ironic quality to bickering back and forth on forum trying to take the superior position talking about what someone else does with their forum posting.

Reminiscing is usually a happy experience like how the thread started. Dwelling on things or wishing things never changed is another story. It gets even worse when nothing can ever be as good as something that never really happened. I'm not taking a superior position, I was pointing out how unhealthy it can become if it's all someone ever does. Unfortunately most people don't consider what their actions or thoughts turn them into, they simply think they are how they are.

How does a bitter old person become that way ? How does someone always find fun in something ? Are they just lucky or unlucky or did they become that way through a history of acting and thinking that way. I don't know a lot of bitter kids that sit around wishing things never changed....at least not ones that dont eventually get put on meds. Something happens to them along the way that turns them into that old guy on the porch that hates everything. Is it one event that changes them or is it  alife time of things that train them to be like that.

The thing abotu SOE is they are always trying to do what makes the most money....Even if it is an absolutely terrible decision they will stick with it and they dont listen to their fanbase......I've always thought most of their games at the core was pretty good but the company itself is really poor.....I never got to try SWG in its glory but did try it a few months before it shut down....Obviously I never saw the game at its best and SOE had zero interest in ever bringing that game back.

Thank you. I "attacked" him (strong word, but whatever), because he suggested that anybody who wishes the state of games were different was "living in the past".  It was a ridiculous assertion and needed to be pointed out.

I didn't suggest anything of the sort...or even close to it.

Wishing a game like SWG pre-cu would come along again (or what made the game unique would come along again) does not imply anything other than:

One believes games that are released since (and even before) do not have those qualities, and one wishes they did.

    It does not mean:

    You have rose colored glasses.

You sit on a porch wishing for things.

    You can't enjoy other games.

    Etc, etc etc......

I realize it must be mind boggling, but one can wish for something and still proceed forward.

thank you captain obvious, your work here is done. I know what I was say isn't going to sink in for some people, but trying to change it or misconstrue it into something I didn't say...doesn't change the message. Like I said though. For people who need it explained they probably wouldn't understand anyway.

The problem is you realize that you're wrong but you persist in claiming that it's us who don't get it. You're the one that either doesn't get it, or refuses to admit you're wrong. We don't need you to explain anything to us. There's nothing wrong with hoping for a game to come out that fits a similar to description as your favorite game. There is simply nothing wrong with that. As a number of people have already pointed out, these things aren't mutually exclusive. You can be sad that a game is gone, you can even hope for it to come back; and at the same time you can be an adult and move on to other things if need be.
