My first reaction on seeing the words "Founder's Packs": upfront cash grab, because the developer doesn't think the game will make enough long run. second: staying well clear of this game.

I think. F2P game made in 2013. Pretty much all of them have this type of feature now. Either an early access feature or a beta pack like in PoE etc. This is just standard these days. People need to get out of the mindset that this is still 2006 and everything is buy the game and pay $15 a month. The player base just doesn't want this anymore and the devs aren't going to be doing it for most games. Almost every game that took the 2006 model in the past 7 years has died or gone F2P because it just doesn't work anymore.

I didn't know WoW was adding player housing.  Good for them!

Is this going to be a fully destructible world like Minecraft? I'm hoping it is if it's using Voxel tech.

Even though it is an alpha you'd think they should show you what you are buying. Every repectable crowd funded game does, why not Landmark?

There are a bunch of videos showing different building timelapse in Landmark out already. That's what the game is about for now, building stuff.

They even made a videos for most of the items in the different packs.

I somehow missed those videos. I'll check them out. Thanks

Another issue I have with Landmarks is: they expect us to pay without all the info about the game!

I mean, what EXACTLY IS Landmarks? How is it tied to EQN? I feel there are so many blank areas, it's a bit buying the cat in the sack.

Actually, subscriptions do work.  Wildstar, FFXIV:ARR and ESO are going this route.  If you read the forums of those game, in particular FFXIV:ARR, you will see that there is a large chunk of people that are tired of being nickle and dimed for a functional game, who just want to pay a monthly fee and have everything.  If the FTP model works for you. great!  However, please refrain from making sweeping, general statements that are based on hyberbole.

As I noted above, before you can even build in Landmark, you need to pay $$$.  So, it's not as FTP as you might think.

Here is the article I am referencing.  The part about paying money for your plot before you can build is the very last paragraph.  It also seems that, depending on how popular an area is, the cost of a plot will go up in real life cash.  So, if you get in quick you can get a decent price, but if you wait and it becomes a desirable place to live you will pay much more.  So, not only are you paying outright to play, there will be a sliding scale for what that amount is later in time.

    Here is the quote:

"Lastly, we talked a bit about real estate. Landmark will be F2P, but plots of land across the worlds will be bought with Station Cash. You can buy them low, when they’re cheap, and wait until the prospective market for that plot of land goes up and then sell them for a profit to the highest bidder.  SOE wants to drive this open economy with everything from the player-made items to the world’s land itself.  And vigilant players will most definitely see some return on their investment of time and/or money."

There are two types of countries.

Those where people think that they get rich with house speculations, and those countries where people built houses for them and the next 5 generations of their kids to live in.

The first sort of courties are in ruin now, the second sort of countries thrive.

Housing speculation is a bubble economy. In the end, someone wants the real value and POOF the bubble bursts. It is really wise to implement this into games?

These are outside of your home plot though which you go out and claim, they have said that over and over again. There will be spots in the world that you can buy with station cash but it isn't the only way to get a plot of land. You do not need to spend a penny on the game if you do not want to. Your home plot grows with your character but those aren't the only plots of land in the game.

This is the only time I've heard direct mention of getting your plot, and it involves $$$.  If there was more to that, I would have thought Bill would have written about it in that article.

Can you link me somewhere that shows you start with a free plot?

I keep wondering, where is the game here? Surely not just this glorified house/world builder?

Not seeing much of interest here so far.

Looks like something me and my 3 year old daughter could mess around with for a little bit.   Not going to waste any money on it however.

Unless they have pink ponies (and from the graphics they just might). Then my hand will be forced.

The above is my personal opinion. Anyone displaying a view contrary to my opinion is obviously WRONG and should STHU. (neener neener)

Surely they can just ctrl-C and ctrl-V to make all the money they need to fund development? lol
