Do you speak jive?

Has anyone stopped playing for a minute and actually paid attention to general chat.  Aside from the spam bots and the LFG messages, what the hell are the rest of these people talking about?  I don't know if I'm just getting old and don't understand modern pop culture or street idioms have changed or what...  All I can tell is that it's english and it's not related to the game at hand.

    I'm almost 60 and I have no problem.  Slang changes all the time, not just when you're old.  The slang of my childhood was not the slang of my late teens, and that wasn't the same as the slang used when I was thirty, and so on and so forth.  You have to keep up or get off the ride.  )

    Been playing MMORPGS since 1996 and "chatting" about stuff outside the game is part of the fun.  Who really wants to just talk about the game?  I am getting old too and I don't understand all the new lingo, but I often want to chat about things outside the game.

    Archaic enough that he can translate, you think? Or do we need to pull out the Daddy-O? Spifflicated Flapper Dames?

    Maybe Google should create translators for...

    Hippy -> English

    Gangsta -> English

    Jive -> English

    Text message shorthand -> English

    Not a problem, I just ignore chat I don't understand, same as I do with foreign languages.

    I've heard the late Barbara Billingsly (Beaver Clever's Mother) speaks fluent jive. Maybe she has a book on it? :D

    Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

    I just wish people would do their best to use proper spelling and grammar.  Kind of tired of the text speak going on everywhere.

    Ugh, tell me about it. The current generation of teenagers (as well as many older people) are too lazy these days to type out the word, 'You'.

    A decade or so ago I gave people a lot more leeway since the majority of mobile devices had the incredibly awkward and tedious alphanumeric pads, but these days most devices now have QWERTY style keyboards, and there's no excuse for it.
