account creation broken?

It refuses to let me create an account, stating that the station name is already in use. This is regardless of anything that I type in to it!
I even tried a completely random string of text, but it still fails!
Is it broken or are they no longer allowing new accounts?

Broken or indeed taken, remind that Station Pass is needed for all their games, so that means many players and how unlikely it seems, it could very well be that your desired name is already taken.

Op tried different random names so I highly doubt it's already taken. I just tried now and it let me create an account.
Either the system was down or having issues or maybe a firewall issue on your side. I would try again now and if it doesn't work try their support system.
