Can this Laptop play MMORPGs like Guild Wars 2, Everquest Next, Age of Wushu etc at good settings ?

Hi,

Its a HP Pavillion N003TX

4th Gen i5 4200u 1.6ghz + turbo boost

AMD Radeon HD 8670m 1GB

4GB RAM

Am also considering

Another HP With

3rd gen i5 3230M 2.6Ghz

AMD Radeon HD 8670M 1GB

4GB RAM

And a DELL Inspiron with

3rd gen i3 3227u 1.8ghz

NVIDIA 730M 2GB

4GB RAM

Preference is currently towards the HP cause they seem to have better build quality.

Plz help me with your advice. Will these be able to run MMOs at high settings or do i necessarily need 2GB graphics cards ?

Thanks!

If you're going to play games on the laptop, avoid anything with a "U" at the end of the name.  That's a low clocked, low voltage processor which is done that way to reduce power consumption, but comes at the price of being low performance.

More video memory lets you use higher resolution textures, but adding more than 1 GB of video memory doesn't offer you any other benefits.  You can only use the higher resolution textures in games that have them, which most won't.  And it doesn't prevent you from playing any games, as it's completely trivial for a game to reduce the resolution of its textures.  So basically, you should ignore video memory capacity on your budget.

I'd advise against buying a discrete video card in a laptop that doesn't explicitly tell you that it uses GDDR5 memory, as otherwise, it will be a slower DDR3 card that isn't much faster than integrated graphics.

What's your budget?  You're probably looking at the wrong class of hardware entirely.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but your 3 listed options won't be able to handle Guild Wars 2. Those graphic cards will get bbq'd, you MIGHT be able to pull it of playing at the lowest settings, but even then I think it'll be unplayable.

You'll have to look for a stronger GPU if you want to play GW2 at medium settings, which won't fry your notebook.

I just bought a laptop a few months ago that destroys any game I play. I get 140 FPS on GW2 and 60's when I have full graphics at 100%.

I dont know what your budget is but I would save my money and get a MainGear.

If you have access to those machines, then click control panel>system and check the windows index rating,if it is at least 5.7 better if 6 you should be ok,i played FFXIV with that rating. If lower like 5.5 or worse then you might be able to play several games but constantly dip below 30 fps in a game like FFXIV.

If i remember correctly GW2 was not properly optimized so you would need a slightly more powerful machine per say but imo it is a lower poly game so 5.5+ still should do the job.

Where you will struggle many times is when you are in a large crowd, then any machine below a 6 rating will struggle.

Thanks for the tip about 'U' Quizzical. My budget is low at around 750usd :(

    Romulan - am jealous lol

Vermilio. Are you sure ? I thought GW2 wasn't too heavy.

I will check that out wizardry.

Readymade ones are my only options cura

I play GW2, WoW, Rift, SWTOR, Lotro, DCUO and a few others with this laptop and I never have any major issues on medium settings. The only lag that I experience is in SWTOR and Rift, but only in areas where there is a lot of high traffic combat. In SWTOR the game freezes sometimes when logging out for some reason. But, out of the games you mentioned, GW2 runs flawlessly with my laptop.

GW2 isn't too heavy, but that depends which rig you'll be throwing at it to give it a try. Was checking out the benchmarks of your listed graphic cards, and according to http://www.notebookcheck.net/ your listed options will fair poorly at GW2 on good settings.

I'm not saying you won't be able to play at all, though I would advise against it since who knows what kind of fps drops you might get at certain events or locations? Would you really enjoy a game where your screen starts freezing up at certain moments or you notice a delay?

With that budget, consider opting for a Desktop instead.

I think any of those laptops would do well if you aimed to play GW2 on low setting, but to get high graphics or to make future games like EQ next work, you'd need something a lot more expensive or a desktop computer.

Not really "a lot" more expensive. There are laptops in the $1100 range that will run any of those on high or ultra:  http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/6072017#6072017

Why do you need a laptop as opposed to a desktop, anyway?

Get an asus g53sx or if you got the money get an asus g75vx
    53 is around 600 and you can get a 75 for 800 to 100p

That doesn't entirely answer the question.  What are you going to do with the laptop?  Even if you do genuinely need a laptop, which particular laptop makes sense for you depends tremendously on what you're going to do with it.

Some people think they need a laptop so that they can move it around every few months.  Some people need to pick up the laptop and move it twice a day.  There's a big difference.

You ll need 8 GB of RAM .4 GB is too close if something isn't right and going from 4 to 6 is same price as going from 4 to 8

    Why does it matter?

    Why does it matter?

    Two reasons:

    1)  A lot of people who think they want a laptop would be better served by getting a desktop instead.

    2)  Even if a laptop makes sense for you, which particular laptop you ought to get depends greatly on how you're going to use it.  For example, light weight is a huge deal for some people and irrelevant to others.  Similarly, battery life is a huge deal to some people and irrelevant to others.
