Lack of Hype Gets Me Hyped!

Since the recent announcements of EQ:NL, I find my hype and anticipation changing gears.   Not a Minecraft fan and I am realizing the full EQ:N may still be at least a year away.    That being said, one game I am overly excited for (not just because I got my beta invite last night!) is ESO.    Why?  Didn't we already bash that and dismiss that game here at MMORPG.com already?  Yeah, maybe that's why.

One thing that gravely annoys me about new MMOs are the hype and the players at launch.    You know the player I'm talking about, the one that spends their money just to complain and force their negativity on others.   The player that gives the companies, media, and other players false interpretations about the game.    The player that leaves the game feeling like a failure, only 1 month into release.   Lately in most games, after about a period of 2-3 months, I begin to feel like I'm playing in a dying world, a game on it's way to the grave.   Back in my EQ1 days, I didn't play thinking, "oh well this game will end in a year or two".   I played with great optimism, thinking my character will live forever in a thriving and ever expanding world.

Right now I am playing Dragon's Prophet and having a ton of fun!!   The community is great (and small).   There are few teenage, self-appointed, game critics running around spewing their negativity.  Why?  Because it was not supposed to be in contention for "The Best MMO Ever" award.  No one feels the need to play this game based on wanting to play what is popular, 'In", or to be part of history.  The people in this game want to play to have fun and ride dragons!   This really allows for a more positive and fun atmosphere in game.

The lack of hype for ESO really has me excited.   These players I dislike have already wrote it off.   Maybe this lack of hype for an IP such as this, could be a good thing for the MMO world.   That is of course if ESO is released and shows the world it really is a great game.   Maybe I'm just getting older and tired of being negative.   I want to look forward to a game (ESO in particular) with great optimism, not that it will be my dream MMO, but that I will be able to enter the world with optimism and a fresh open mind, as opposed to entering the world with pessimism and a critical and jaded heart.   I want to have fun playing games again! haha!

If I want a world in which people can purchase success and power with cash, I'll play Real Life. Keep Virtual Worlds Virtual!

ESO is nothing to get excited about. The combat looks so stiff and boring. The "story-driven" aspect sounds like it's no different than SWTOR.

I'm looking forward to EQN, too. It's probably at least 2 years off :(
