I'm a slow typist which in fast paced mmos handicaps my character quite severely. I've pretty much always disliked vents and the likes due to immersion and environmental (family and personal noise) aspects.
As such, I've wondered how to improve the situation. Not just for those like me, but perhaps also for others. My current wonder is, if it should be possible for the software to analyze the player's voice and allow the player to fully configure (ie. suitable for character) how it sounds while naturally also filter out other sources. Also the on/off should be hotkeyable. I do not believe it impossible. If a 3rd pt company were to make one, I would assume quite a few bigger mmos in the future to be interested.
Your thoughts? Do you find the chat channels enuff? Do you enjoy hearing the usual in vent? Do you see ingame vents as improvements? Can you think of other means to improve the communication and do you think such improvements are needed?
What if the voice analysis were further linked to voice commands a la android? For gestures, emotes, preset audio, skills, interfaces, macros? Would that increase you immersion?
