A small number of users are reporting some issues regarding the Xbox One disc drive. Shown in a few handful videos, problematic consoles are emitting a strange and concerning grinding noise when a disc is inserted into the Blu-ray slot.
It's not clear how many consoles have this problem and Microsoft has yet to respond to the matter. This post will be updated when new information arrives.

Yeah, all new consoles (or any hardware really) have a % that have issues - a few reported for PS4 as well, but disc eating ones scare me.
As I sit looking at the box for my Day1 XB1, I have my fingers crossed I'm not one of the unlucky few.
Some people will have issues regardless, on any piece of electronic equipment. It will blow up and be all over the net with people screaming FAIL, when its actually a very small %.
4000 people all over the net can make a small issue seem like the end of the world. Hopefully its just the minority that is having issues, like the PS4.
Me and a friend of mine bought PS4s on release day, no issues at all after many many hours of use. If I did not own one and just read the internet you would think they had all been sabatoged and were doomed to fail.
Sucks for the people that are having issues. Luckily they should be under warranty and can even be taken back to the store for a refund today. I would still be pissed off for sure tho.
Unfortunately it's not an isolated incident and there's a LOT of videos like this over youtube at the moment, and a lot of them gets censored pretty quick too, people getting their disk chewed by the tray just like in this video...
Theres lots of people who like to own the physical copy for reasons like collecting
Something similar happened to my xbox 360 a few years ago where the disk drive stopped working all of a sudden
There were a "lot" of videos and posts about the PS4 too, but they amounted to about 4,000 units that needed to be replaced. Even if there are ten times the number of units with issues as there are videos and posts, it's not going to amount to much.

That's 4,000 out of a million units.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
..but it's not "chewing". There's nothing in there that "chews". It spins, and for whatever reason, it's having trouble spinning.
hmm lack luster launch line up and technical problems of an unknown scale of frequency being blown up by the internet....where are those stones certain fanbois were throwing last week liberally....I think another group of fanbois now has the right to return them with some force.
I may or may not be saying that for the sake of my own amusement as someone with no horse in this race currently.
To be fair though from an outsiders POV Xbox one wins the launch lineup war but only because of Forza which is really Sony's failure for not getting Drive Club out in time. But that slight win is tempered by xbox one's first party AAA lineup being riddled with IAPs IMO.
No an xbox fan already did that
