Fable Legends - Xbox one

Any theme park lovers interested in this? I watched the trailer and read about how they want to make FL relevant after launch, it seemed like something fellow mmorpgers might be interested in, it's an xbox one exclusive, if you get a chance look it up, I think it has great potential considering it's exclusiveness and the game play, it may just help pave the way for more console mmorpgs.

There are console MMORPGs, just not many due to the previous technical limitations of the consoles. This has to mainly do with the 256 MB or 512 MB of ram limitation. MMOs are notorious for consuming a lot of memory where going into 64-bit for more ram makes sense. A console with less than a gig of memory will simply be overloaded and the game would need serious reduction in scale to be playable.

Since both consoles are expected to connect to the internet, have a decent x86-64 processor and have 8 gigs of ram, it makes sense use the current generation of consoles for mmorpgs.

Fable seems to be a good way to to help make that transition on xbox, I don't think ps4 needs to transition still, but xbox will and fable really steers people towards the typical mmorpg mechanics. I keep waiting for the flood gates to open.

The biggest impediment to MMOs on the XBox is Microsoft.

Microsoft's business model is that if you want to have network connectivity, you must go through XBL-gold, and MS gets a cut of the revenue on the publishers end, plus the players subscription to Gold in the first place. MS wins both ways, and they just have to provide a thin proxy to make sure all the traffic is funneled through their service, so they don't even have to front huge data centers. This also makes cross-platform servers extraordinarily difficult to handle, since XBox traffic has an extra hop through XBL that other platforms don't have to content with.

Not many MMOs are willing to do that - for a P2P MMO it forces the player to have two subscriptions to play their game. It forces the publisher to give up a cut of the revenue from the game no matter what financial model they choose.

Square/Enix worked a deal for FFXI to get it on the 360- I don't know if that deal originated from Microsoft or S/E, but that's the only title I know of that doesn't require a Gold membership and allows for cross-platform play, and I do know it was a one-time thing... there's a reason you don't see FFXIV on the 360 or XBone.

The Playstation3 has quite a few MMOs, with many of those coming over the PS4 - DCUO, PS2, FFXIV, FreeRealms, Dust 512, etc. Many of those are SoE games, so of course they want to utilize their own platform, but there are other publishers on there as well.

So wait how is this gonna be an MMORPG?

don't get me wrong i LOVE albion. i love the fable world and feel it has to it.

But from what im reading at their website it will be a coop RPG like Fable 3.

No, Fable Legends will not be an MMORPG. It will be a single player RPG with support for cooperative play. You can choose to play the game alone with three AI companions as heroes or you can play with up to three friends as heroes and one as the villain.

I loved Fable 1 & 2. Fable 3 was 'okay' up until the last third of the game (when you become monarch), where it just turned into a rushed, poorly-made, poorly thought out mess of a game with quite possibly one of the most nonsensical plots in the history of fiction.

My fond memories of the first two games, combined with the knowledge that Peter Molyneux isn't the least bit involved, are the only reasons I have any interest whatsoever in Fable legends.

Not even considering getting an Xbone until the first price drop anyway, so hopefully by that time it'll have been out for a while and I can make an educated decision about it.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.

PS4 has quite a few lined up, I am not a big fan of soe though and they will have a strong foothold on the ps4 platform.
