Player created content is all the buzz, has anyone put together a decent comparison of these two games? The more I hear of them both the more interested I am in both. As I thought about it too Spark is coming to xbox one, why didn't sony put landmark on the ps4?

it's likely to come to consoles in future but for now the focus is on PC only

“We need to make sure that it’s a kickass game on PC before we do anything else,” he said. “We’re going to nail down all our questions and design and everything like that so that it’s a really good game. Then we’ll talk about other platforms.”
The game is also controller-friendly, according to Georgeson, which was an accident instead of intentional.
“It was never our intent to make a controller friendly game,” he said. “But when we decided to minimize the number of buttons you can use to just one hotbar, it almost accidentally becomes controller friendly. That’ll be a cool thing if and when we get to [a PS4 version]. The fact that it doubles for controllers is just a bonus.”

I agree w you that much of it is probably "market speak"
but history has shown that SOE has focused on a primary platform in the past
FreeRealms launched on PC 1st -- came to consoles 2 years later
Planetside 2 launched on PC 1st - coming to consoles 18 months later

It's been about for years, you just didn't know it and now SOE are doing all of a sudden it's meant to be new lol.

Excited for both. Project Spark looks amazing and is, in breadth of feature set and implementation, a different beast than Landmark altogether, though both games obviously share the notable characteristic of being player-created content focused.

Depends on

A) How robust Spark will be in terms of multiplayer even though we do know that the games you build can be accessible by others. Whether it is able to facilitate that in big numbers remains to be seen.

B) How well-supported Spark is in regard to diversity of themes and/or combining themes. Right now it is focused primarily (though not fully) on a fantasy theme. They hope to expand upon this, probably through microtransactions since the game is free.

On the subject of microtransactions, expect to see them come into play for any multiplayer application of built game worlds that approach mmo levels, if they exist. Call this a hunch.

Landmark looks awesome, but it is a blank world of sorts that can be built up and modified to great degrees, theoretically. Project Spark aims to let you create games from scratch using far more tools. As such, it is going to take a lot more work just to build a framework for any meaningful multiplayer experience while Landmark has it already provided. Time will tell how prevalent player-made tools and templates play out in regard to speeding up this process (or how long until developer-made tools go on sale for the same purpose.)

Cannot wait to play both, but Landmark will be a template with many possibilities for building upon while Project Spark will be a toolkit for making the template itself and the rules by which content itself is governed.

My first project? A vertical world physics puzzle adventure platformer to teach myself lots of the things I am going to want to know about the toolset.

@ perf - very interesting comments, it seems to go against what the " elitist wise guys " say considering project spark appears to be more complex and available on a console. Landmark tools are in place to help create the world faster, in spark you not only create the world but you create the concept as well.
