Skill in GW

I am thinking about buying GW, but there is one thing I would like to know about it first;
Everyone talks about how skill, not time played, descides who are good players in this game.
If this is true the combat system must be radically different from other MMORPGs.
Could anyone explain to me what kind of skill you need in this game?
