Games I completed.

I was looking back at my MMO career and came to a strange realisation, in all my time MMO hopping (since I last had a home in WOW vanilla) there are only four games I ever completed to max level.  These are: -

  • WOW vanilla + BC
  • GW1 many times.
  • Rift
  • Pirate 101
It struck me as odd that I was so bored I could not even play through the levelling content, let alone the end game.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Sorry: don't know how I ended up in Wildstar rather than pub- can a GM move it?

First off you cant really finish an MMO, because they should be ever evolving..

Reaching max level in many mmos is more like reaching the 2nd part of that game... There still should be progression, but not measurable by levels anymore..

reaching max level in MMOs is not that hard anymore..

most mmos these days i give a single run to max level to devour the storries and lore, if the stories and lore stop and the game turns intoo a grind, most of the fun is gone and i move on

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

If you want stories just play a good single player game, they do story much better than mmo's.

Just because we may feel something should be a certain way doesn't mean it actually is that way. I played WOW to 60, did a few dungeons and the game was over.  For the first time ever, I actually won an MMO. The only thing left was higher gear for higher dungeons for higher gear for higher dungeons for higher gear...    That's not gameplay to me - it's response programming for rodents.

Personally i still have to find the single player rpg that has more content and stories then lotro...

games lik swtor lotro tsw proof that stories can and will be a major part of certain mmos...  eSO will be the next mmo to proof so.

An mmo offers players so much more then a single player rpg, community, playing together with friends, playing against other players.  There is no single reason that themepark mmos can not have the depth of a single player rpg

i just happen to like a social experience and love lore and stories...  That why i play mmos and rpgs....MMORPG...

Then why even level, all you're doing is gaining levels so you can complete higher level content so you can gain more levels so you can complete higher level content so you can...  look familiar.

Progression is progression, whether it's levels, gear, alternate levels, magical super points, whatever.

Saying you don't like a certain form of progression is fine, that's your opinion. But saying it's not gameplay because you don't like it is moronic.

I don't think most people understand the "Skinner Box" analogy. I completely agree by the way.

    A few things:

    1. I've never been an advocate of level based games. I've posted many times that it is a to why it is a design that was broken in PnP, and how those same flaws are amplified in MMORPGs.
    2. I never said there wasn't, shouldn't be, can't be or ... well anything about the presence of progression. However, there is a very big difference between progression being part of the game and progression being the singular linear path an entire game is built upon.
    3. I said it is not gameplay to me. Maybe I should have written "for me" as your reply indicates you've taken that statement personally when it was just a statement of personal preference. For me, that's not gameplay.  YMMV, pottymouth. image
