Roma Victor Enters Commercial Test

From KFR, the President of RedBedlam:

I'm copying this post from the GOCaT forums, which are now home to the Commercial Testers. There had been quite a bit of trouble on the test servers over the last couple of days and I needed to explain the situation. Since it also explains the peculiarities of our Commercial Test launch, I thought the whole RV Community should see it.

-KFR

Quote:
I just wanted to take a moment to explain the last few days. The Commerical Test was supposed to start on the 5th. Actually it sort of did start on the 5th, but then as you'll know by now my wife went into labour (ten days early!) and we were rushed off to hospital. At the moment on the live test servers everything is pretty intimately linked to me personally so when I go AWOL, things can get out of hand.

So with 2,500 new members just added to the team I disappear off the radar for a couple of days and leave things in a real mess.

Sorry about that but it does remind us how much of a human story Roma Victor really is.

So apologies for the lapse; I'll try and pick things up and catch up as best I can this week, however first I've got a long list of mails from the rest of the dev team to go through!

So there you go - the Commercial Test has started - sorta. We should be lifting the NDA pretty soon too.

-KFR

-------

The moment I've been waiting for for ages. I've been checking out this one for years, and it seems they're finally nearing release time. It's almost surreal, the amount of fantastic features this game will have, and how friendly the developers answer questions and "mix in with the crowd" on the forums.

If anybody feels "offended" by the lack of information in this post, I'm sorry I disturbed your natural ecosystem of "WHICZ GAME SHULD I GET LOL" and "[game title] vs [game title]"

Commercial Test as in Open Beta?

  • tummblertummbler Member UncommonPosts: 267

ive been interested in this game for a while as well...

it finally breaks the much dreaded grinding and train track gameplay that the mmorpg genre had set upon itself

i do not feel the need to go into detail of the features of this game. thats what the gamesite is for.

    i salute you roma victor!

    good luck!

yeah its open beta but the way the game works with no subscription fee they're also testing the way you pay for your currency i believe. All the currency you buy in beta will be carried over at the live rate when the game goes live so your not really paying to beta. This game sounds really cool i'm looking forward to playing it.

I will definately be trying this one out.

Never thought I'd be interested in a game based on ancient Rome, or even anything that's not fantasy. ::::19::

I have a beta account. The game is a sick joke that makes Mourning Online seem like a #1 best seller. When you first log on the graphics are utter crap, reminded me of the days of playing on the IMAC , Wolfenstein anyone. Past that there are no interactive npcs in the world as far as for barbarians. There are no beginning anything. YOu log into the world naked and well thats about all you get. Supposedly if you had read the FAQ and found out they placed a tool in the roman side that you can use. I found no resources in game. Also there were also zero mobs, animals, anything to kill. The game wasnt actually a game but a sick joke. If I had a year I could make a better game from 3ds Gamestudio. Thats my beta experience.

Can I have your account then please, bro?

  • ImperatorianImperatorian Member Posts: 1,000

No! Me! I've been waiting for it for 2 years.

    :(

Besides, the NDA is still active. You weren't suppost to say that.

Yeah hi do you understand beta? You're not doing a free trial. Don't expect a finished product. I don't even expect a finished product on release lol. This is being made by a company of like 5 people so to expect it to have much polish even in open beta is ludacris. I sure hope you're giving feedback because being a beta tester you bear a strong responsibility. But given the fact that you cant even understand a NDA i doubt seriously you understand your role as a beta tester and most likely you think beta's are free trials.

The fact that you can log in means thats bull LOL image

But seriously, as others said it is Beta and to the credit of the devs.... they havnt charged anyone, nor have they made any unsubstantiated claims that the game is any more than how you described it... thats the nature of Beta and the very thing that Mourning didnt understand. They seemed to think that as soon as the had a few screenshots it was release time.image

It would seem you logged into the wrong game by mistake. Why would there be 'mobs' to kill'? This is not an mmorpg like the ones you are obviously accustomed to. This is more like a simulation of ancient Rome. If you're looking for a game like Everquest or WoW then you're looking in the wrong place. Please just go back to one of those games, and leave Roma Victor to those that understand what it's about. I promise I will stay away from your chosen mmorpg, I will not play it and then give it a terrible review simply because I wanted something with a bit more depth. I will simply not play it to begin with.

Nowhere. You have to sign up for their beta and over the weeks you'll get accepted. Probably this month. They'll accept 2500 players per week or so I heard.

No no you misunderstand .. The game is suck a pos that there is nothing in the world. If it suppose to be a simulation of the roman times then they failed on every account. First off the barbarian camp is 100% empty, there are no animals in which to hunt, no crops in which to harvest. So the barbarians are dead on every account. Hell i can walk outside on a air force base and see a squirral in which to hunt and kill. So if logging into a game where you walk for 1 hour straight in a single direction and hit nothing.

So I'll ask again, can I have your account? ^_^ Or at least your msn adress so you can tell me all about the game once the NDA has been lifted, please?

again do you understand what testing is? you really need to stop beta testing. People like you do a real bad job for others who count on beta testers. Sounds to me like your looking to play a game. Heres an idea! GO BUY ONE THATS FINISHED! bozo

Maybe instead of judging the game when only about two-thousand players can EVEN play it, you should begin looking for  bugs and start suggesting ways to imrpove it.  As stated before, this is not the finished game and if you logged-in with an outlook such as that, you will do nothing but hinder the entire development and progress of the game.  As far as the NDA, I hope RedBedlam finds your account and takes action whether it be banning or legal.  I have waited for this game for three and a half years, and I will be damned if some "newbie" walks in and bad-mouths it.  How about enjoying the chance of beta'ing a new, revolutionary game.

I know if I had the client I would.

    P.S.

Just curious, but how long have you actually WAITED for the game?  What have you done to help it?  Have you created a clan, posted on the boards, made a newsletter?

    One of us has.

I've never posted on their boards out of fear that I'd overhype myself and get dissapointed if it got postponed for a year.

But, hot dang, it seems like it's finally time!

I can't wait. The game seems SO good. Finally! Two years of waiting have come to an end.

I can't help but bring one issue to the fore. Regardless of whether DragonElder is doing the testing required, if there is nothing in the game as he says, and it's nearly due to be released, I can assure you upon release there will still be nothing in the game. You don't really believe they would go from nothing in near release to everything in gold release inside of a month or so do you?

  • CopelandCopeland Member Posts: 1,955

Really depends on what they're testing and what their path to adding content through testing is.

  • BadhawkBadhawk Member Posts: 203

Yes!!! ::::08:: I've been waiting for 2 years! This will be the game to set the standard, I am sure of it!!

It sucks, worst timing. I was just getting into Guild Wars!

I think the really sad thing here is, the NDA has yet to be lifted.  KFR, while bringing in 2400 more people sent emails asking that people remain descrete and not discuss the game with individuals outside the test.  So either you didnt read that part, or you're choosing to ignore it, going against his wishes.  That my friends is the sad part.  The NDA will be lifted soon, true enough, but thats no excuse for your unofficial review.

Now, I know in other games you're able to thow a rock and hit a bear, wild bore, deer, and kimono dragon all before that rock hits the ground.  However, until you send me a picture of you in the woods al la Snow White, I'll accept that seeing no animals is more realistic.  ;)

Everything you discribed in your expierence is not the way it will be at release.  Rest assured you will have animals to hunt, forests to go through, roads to travel along, and crowded streets to wade through.

Regardless, KFR was caught off guard this week when his wife went into labor and brought his first child into the world.  Not long after that he was back on the boards, and working on the game again.  He's busy, give him a break.  He wasnt expecting to be bringing a new life into the world the same day his servers were smacked with thousands of testers.

This game is based on a half scale realistic 180 AD europe, back then europe was sparesly populated and the distances between towns and villages where huge.
