Why theme park mmos do not use lan?

I mean seriously. If all your endgame content is 5-10 man, why do you even bother to set up a server, hire gms, support and pay server fees while you can release lan version of this 5-10 man experience and allow people to set up their own game servers. Sure you can not ask for subscription fee but it may work for buy to play.  Since theme park mmos are becoming more and more like single player games why not add lan support too?

Because the server acts as a cheat check.

I think the OP was trying to be clever. It seemed more like another "new MMOs are just solo games" thread than an actual zero-research, poorly-thought out question. At least I hope that's the case.

Yeah, I am sorry for not making it clear. Like I said if all the juicy end game requires very small number of players to complete I don't see why it has to be online anymore. Maybe keeping players online and selling micro transactions is more profitable even if you have to spend a lot for servers. I don't know.

    In MMOs...

    • ...are you meant to group with many players...
    • ...or are you meant to share a gameworld with many players?
In the latter, grouping is not strictly necessary, is it?
