Looking for a skill system based game

Blup008Blup008 Member Posts: 5

Hello,

I'm looking for a skill system based game. Back in the day, I've played the game Rubies of Eventide, and I really loved the skillsystem. But unfortunately, that game has died a long while ago, so I'm looking for a new game with a likely skill system.

In RoE there were combat/fighting skills (swords, staffs, daggers,...) and also some magic skills (sorcery, necromancy,...). If you created a character on the game, you had to take a class. A necromancer for intance or a swashbuckler. When you started to play the game, and you got some experience points, you would also get 'Development points', which you could distribute in any skill you want. For instance, as a necromancer, I would put those skillpoints in the skill necromancy. And if I wanted my necromancer to be a good fighter with daggers, I could spend some of the points in the skill 'daggers'. I want absolute freedom in what my character will do.

All the games I've tried in the past, didn't have a skill based leveling system like this. It was all level based, and classbound. So I'm looking for a game which can be compared to Rubies of Eventide, but I don't seem to find it anywhere.

I hope someone can help me find a nice game!

Oh yeah, it would be nice if the game is free to play, as I don't have that much money atm

    Thanks, I'll try those.

EDIT: Yes, that is the game I've played. Graphicwise it was shit, but I really enjoyed the skillsystem, gameplay and the nice community.

For open skill systems, I recommend The Secret World.

Ryzom is completely skill based. Everything, including harvesting and crafting, is based on skills. Every action the user takes is built by the user using skills.

Ideally for me would be like any level based other MMORPG, but instead of being bound to the healer class, dps class, tank class etc, I want to build my character in the way I like it. Maybe I want to go pure dps at the beginning, and while playing the game, I might consider skilling some heal skills etc...

If I take the example of RoE again, you had your base level which is the same like in many other games (cap was 51), but every skill was a level apart. Throughout gaining lvl 51, you got enough development points to max out 3-4 skills. Because every skill had a level cap of 500. I could go for instance lvl 500 necromancy and lvl 500 dagger, but I could spec those points in another way if I wanted that. For example 300 necromancy, 150 armor, 150 swords and 150 spellcraf. I'm just giving examples here. I just had the freedom to level whatever I wanted, if I got enough development points for it.

Pretty sure this is what Ryzom has.. altho the cap is lowered for f2p users. If i remember correctly, feel free to correct me if im wrong :)

In Ryzom, the character does not have a level, only skills have levels. This make it interesting, in that you can play at any level you have skills at. For example: you have healing at 50, offensive magic at 100, and melee at 150. You can play as a lvl 50 healer, a lvl 100 mage, or a lvl 150 melee.

    Take a look at Xyson.

It's not fantasy, but it is a skill based NON LEVEL Game. There is a trial also.

    Sandbox, open world pvp
