Thank You all in advance for those that are willing to give up a minute of their time.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

It's this month's "Help me understand why a boy plays a girl character" thread/survey.

Damn you're fast P
Yeah I figured it out once I went back to the main list and reread the title.
I'm not really sure why it's so hard for people to understand, some people are not their characters, and don't see them as an extension of themselves. You're not swapping genders, you're controlling a character in a game.
This really isn't a huge issue, but students seem to roll through here looking for poll-takers on this topic almost monthly, like Loktofeit said. Most of the gender swapping logic boils down to wanting an attractive avatar to look at, especially as many people prefer a 3rd person view in game. Few, if any, games offer any differentiation between sexes, and even SF-based games rarely venture beyond a 2 sexed biological model. It's rarely ever an attempt to portray a person as another sex, or any psychological drives people want to associate with the 'gender swapping phenomenon'. It's almost always visual.
For any future pollsters, please find another topic to annoy us with,
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
I would be surprised if the masses of gamers actually would take the identity of a character ingame. I kow there are some around who take identities with ingame characters and some do real rolepalying, but this is just a small part of the player base in most games and this kind of gameplay called "roleplaying" is in the meanwhile very rare.
When I talked to people about this, most did say that they just control the character they play with. They decide how their character looks like since they have to watch at it for the time ingame, especially if it has a 3rd person view. The masses of female characters ingame are mostly male players anyway and this is not surprising at all, only some gamers with less experience or some of the very young players expect that the gender of an ingame character reflects the gender of the player.
In order to see what people think you need to be clear about what they think about. Using slang like "X-Gender" is not clear since you have never defined what 'x-gender' means. If you want to do this professionally in the future then start doing it professionally now.
