Graphics are a turn off. Basically the same as SWOTOR. I didnt like them in that game either, I didnt buy it and even now that is free I dont play it. I played for 12 hours maybe. Not that this is the same thing. But IMO graphics are a lot more important than this article intimates. I am sure that was their goal to downplay the horrible cartoon graphics and call them "seasoning'. Along with the story, which I can assume since theyre lumped together, there isnt a story either. Which can be OK if its full on sand box. Two word i did not see in the article.
What first drew me to the game was the ability to build your own hose on the landscape. But that isnt much to base the decision to spend 60 bux and then 15/mo.
So as with ESO, subscription is going to give it a very tough road. To charge these days requires something really special. This article might hype it up but it surely doesnt give us anything special.
That is some mighty high praise all over this article.
Well who do you think is paying the bills on this site? LIterally every single article on the feed is about Wildstar, or a preview from Wildstar. This website is notorious for praising garbage. SWTOR got 9s and 10s from every staff writer except one, who then got fired for giving it a low score.
I don't expect anything new or interesting to come from people who made WoW.
To be fair, Carbine dropping the NDA on level 1-15 for the press is probably the biggest news in MMO gaming today. I would expect today's (and probably tomorrow's and possibly this weekend's) conversation to revolve around it. That's how these things works. Something interesting happens and people talk about it.
Ah, didn't realize there was an NDA drop, that makes more sense.

Correction: Danny got let go because he was posting his articles across other sites and forums, before they were published here. If we really cared about his score, the article in question would be gone.
As to why this many articles: it's a major embargo drop. We do this for all big games that let us go nuts on coverage.
As for "paying the bills": it looks to me like Perfect World is today, judging by the site skin. But I really wouldn't know, because the only people who do anything with ads are the site owners. Editorial and Community just do our own thing, though you may not believe it.
-lol ur awsome Bill -and thats why sir i read ur articles here- you guys take off those 'tin hats' off these goobers!
This game just looks very MEH to me. Hopefully it gets a free trial because I really can't tell anymore these days whether I will like a game without getting to play it first.

People throw the term "Another WoW clone" around far to casually. We have seen attempt after attempt of games to try to clone WoW but they have all failed. They tried but were unable to capture that essence that WoW has. They didn't fail because they WERE WoW clones. They failed because they WERE NOT WoW clones. The closest attempt being Rift probably. And even with Rift we still saw a pretty good successful run. And now we see that FF14 has also put forth a good product based on the tested model. And that game is successful as well. I'd be willing to bet that a very good WoW clone would be a success. So to write off this game as a "WoW Clone" and thus doomed to fail is not entirely correct. If Carbine does it right,, they game will do fine. The WoW model still works.

That's not why they failed. WoW doesn't have a mystical "essence". It has brand name recognition and the biggest marketing budget in the genre.
I have no idea if the game will be good or not. Personally, I like what I see so far but I won't really know until I have had a chance to play it. That being said, your comments look an awful lot like judging a book by it's cover. Baseball, football, golf and many other games that people enjoy might look boring to an outsider that is watching them. However, people play them because they have fun doing so. You may want to wait until you are certain of your words before throwing them out for everyone to see. Just some friendly advice.

Essence was the wrong word. "Formula" would probably been better, and yes WoW does have it and it goes beyond brand name recognition or SWTOR would never have gone F2P. We call TOR a WoW Clone, and yet it lack so many things that made WoW a success.
1. As compared to what? It has the most engaging combat I have seen in awhile.
2. Ok...how does it look dated?
3. NCSoft...what about them? they have 2 of the longest running games right now, and Lineage 1 is still a mega hit in the Asian market. Lineage 2 still has 7 servers running last I checked, stateside. Not bad for a game going on 10 years old. Aion, still a played game, I could go on, but the point is, NCsoft makes good games. What is your point?
4. So you've played the game? Because I see plenty new and innovative, starting with how they release information via devspeak. They don't talk about what they want to do, they talk about what is done. Pretty refreshing if you ask me.
So I would really like to see your reply to this, because from what I see, you have no idea what you are talking about and you are just throwing your very uninformed opinion around.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

WoW has the benefit of being the first, it is THE name in the mainstream. It was a lot of people's first MMO, so they come back for nostalgia. To people breaking into the MMO market, it's the first touchstone.
SWTOR doesn't have that benefit.
If LotRO had launched before WoW, you bet your ass WoW wouldn't have done so well. It was the first MMO with a MASSIVE well known studio behind it, a year long advertisement campaign aimed at non MMO gamers, and the time and budget to polish. There's a ton of benefit to being the first.
The actual game mechanics of WoW existed long before it, and have been accurately reproduced in many games since. It's not like WoW has a lot of depth or even a lot of features, and it has absolutely ZERO innovation.
I played the early Betas and was highly unimpressed, so much that I didn't bother with the following Betas.
My negative feedback has nothing to do with the bugs but more with the gameplay and the settings.
The gameplay is WOWish while the settings are so alien to the average MMO player that many people will not get it, starting from me (I am not even going to comment on the ultra cartoonish art style)
This game is going to be the next TSW............... straight to F2P in 2 months
Since I've been relegated to 500 ping servers in Blade and Soul (China), without word of its NA EU release in an entire year, I really hope that this doesn't turn out to be some half-hearted attempt at gobbling up the western audience.
This is the sentence I found most intriguing : Nothing out there is as distinct-looking and nothing else has the potential to bridge the genres of fantasy/sci-fi/comedy adventure quite as well.
I kinda felt like the cartoonish graphics were a bit much early on but there definitely growing on me.
Now that TESO has shown it's hand give us a release date already!
Like me in the beta. Even if it is for a stress weekend. Everything I have seen so far looks like I will love this game, but for god's sake like me in the beta.
I wish I could get excited about a linear quest hub themepark with no risk vs reward or consequences for your actions...but I can't. I wish the game the best. While the gfx are not my cup o tea the bigger strike are the game design/features. Thankfully it looks like some of the indie devs are taking a step away from this formula.

I cant see a risk / reward working for this title. People seem to think it can be thrown in wherever and cause instant profit. Nothing can be farther from the truth. If this game were to be designed towards Risk / Reward EVERYTHING would have to change.
Full Loot PVP/ Consequences/ Sandbox elements require their own style of progression, this is not the progression that Wildstar is using. Throwing it in there would ruin what they have, so keep Sandbox elements out of this game or else it will completely flop.
Personally this game has drawn huge interest from me. a path system that allows me to level with a style of quests i prefer, Customizable loadouts that allow me to play the way i want to, The developer tools being given to animators with the game so we dont have to fiddle with restrictions in the gaming world, the Housing system in itself, And a sub that can be paid for via ingame currency. This game may actually pull me a distance away from TSW, Given that i have taken shots at NCsoft for being just as bad as Funcom at times. I seem to be stuck walking up to them, saying sorry, and REALLY WANTING TO PLAY WILDSTAR.
Because i can. I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out. Logic every gamers worst enemy.

Just kidding -

A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.

4 reason why i dont like tis game;
1.combat looks boring
2.game looks outdated
3.NCsoft
4.nothing new or innovation
NCsoft just try make own WoW clone mmorpg

Timing more so than the Engine itself.

yes, the game is a theme park but if it's put together well it has a chance to hold my attention for a good long while.
at least until EQ:N comes out
