[General Article] WildStar: PvP - Chaotic & Strategic

Information about WildStar has come largely from Carbine Studios....until today. We have a full suite of articles that cover the game in general, PvP, crafting, the Medic and Engineer classes and housing. It's a ton of information that you simply do not want to miss. Read on!

Over time, I adapted my character to improve my PvP capability, adding further skills to my Limited Action Set as I leveled up and unlocked more slots. The biggest change, however, was switching to a more survival-based approach. The Mark IV Exo-Suit has two built-in stances: a DPS-focused Eradication Mode and a Provocation Mode for tanking. I also used Advanced Modification Protocols to improve my tankiness further, and dropped the bots from my Limited Action Set. With more control, more damage and more mitigation, my performance improved.

After watching the Livestreams I can't wait to try PVP in Wildstar.

How balanced is melee vs ranged at this point?  I'm concerned in an action-oriented mmo and the constant AoE bombs that melee will always be at a disadvantage.

What kind of skills allow you to push or pull players to or away from you? What kind of gap closers besides stealth does melee get? How often could these skills be used? Achesoma is right about aoe bombs and melee.

Right at level 4 or so, the Warrior gets a longer range leap, on a minor cooldown.  I'm hoping there are more effective CC negators and gap closers too.  But the Leap is solid.

I'm a little worried about the last part. I hope it was just an exaggeration that the exiles didn't notice the dinky chua, and not that the smallest race has a big advantage in PvP...?

Heh, I see where you're coming from. To be honest though, the size difference doesn't give an advantage for a bunch of reasons:

    • Nameplates (though they're bugged at the mo) still give you away.
    • Telegraphs are the same size regardless, and give you away.
    • The Moodie Mask puts a massive beacon above your head whenever you're carrying it, as if it's saying "PLEASE KILL ME NOW".
    • Hitboxes are the same.
It's mostly wishful thinking though, as if you're praying you could walk on tiptoes while they're looking the other way. But nah, the only real advantage you get playing Chua is the awesomeness of being a Chua.

This seems like a rehash of every other MMO that half attempts PvP with battlegrounds. Why can't they actually develop something unique instead of copying WoW. While the game does look good compared to everything else that has been coming out it doesn't look like it adds anything new to the scene, or does any of the old mechanics exceptionally well.
