cenen7cenen7 Member UncommonPosts: 55

Its wow clones all the way. With occasional something different that is under budget thus fails.

Everybody says it is wow clones, wow clones...  Show me a decent "wow clone" that has come out in the past few years.  They are NOT wow clones.  WoW has changed so much from vanilla to now anyway that a game that was a wow clone based off vanilla would be thought of as too hard-core as scary as that thought is.

Since those games I think only a handful have actually had anything innovative. Off of the top of my head: DDO (yeah, not new I know, but still extremely unique), TSW (innovative and unique storytelling, progression systems, great for solo players too), and TERA (pretty cookie cutter in all aspects except that its visceral combat is both refreshing, and simply the best)

You are right, but not how you want to be. They are all eq1 clones, since the number of innovations that wow brought to the table EQ hadn't previously done can be counted on exactly: fuckle. WoW followed eq1's progression, story, ui, quest mechanics, almost to a T. They even followed the same timeline on adding new classes, expansions, continents, etc.

So yeah, they aren't wow clones, they are eq1 clones.

    @Cenen7,

Well the mmorpg genre is utterly stale at the moment and you would think with Christmas next week some game would of released for the holiday....NOPE, (hell open beta with anything).

I've been scoring over every site I can imaginably find to locate some, anything halfway decent and the best that I tried and then immediately quit was the new release of 'City of Steam:Arkadia'. What a disappointment but not going to go into that. The fact is nothing exist right now to play.

Unless you bought an Xbox One or PS4 which I'm waiting till next year there really is nothing to play. Assassin's Creed 4 Blag Flag and Battlefield 4 are the only new worthy games to play but my PC won't run them. Don't even get me started on all these early access games being spewed out at the moment which most of them can be found on Steam. Sorry not going to pay a company to test their product. At best they either 1. have a free beta program or 2. pay me to test their product

It's so pathetic right now in the gaming market that I have resorted to just playing 'The Last Stand' on Armor Games website. It is just a generic strategy game. I also play 'FTL' to kill some gaming time.

My youngest brother bought a Wii U so he could play 'Zombie U'. He said he liked it but I'm not a Nintendo fan especially of the Wii or Wii U not to mention after being out for a year the game library is almost non-existent.

If anyone is like me you are going through withdrawal or fits of rage because if you really want to play a decent game you're gonna have to dig out an old classic to have any fun with any genre at this point.

You yourself are contributing to this problem by buying games like FFXIV, ESO and wildstar. The more people continue to buy those hyped up wow-model games, the more encouraged AAA developers are to continue copying that model.

Maybe EQNL will be the wakeup call this industry needed, maybe not. The only reason a different type of MMO hasn't popped up yet is because most of the 'variety-attempts' are made by 1 guy or some indie team with a 5000$ budget and end up lacking in many areas. Get a AAA company to make something with fresh concepts, and people will flock it.

Try making a second life account and playing on CoLA (City of Lost Angles) or KoS (Kingdom of Sand) roleplaying Sims...heck even Gorean Sims (but beware of  gorean stuff...it will alter you as a person and not necessarily for the better). They have beautiful environments with more flexibility then any strict MMO, interesting metered combat systems, and are highly structured and deep with roleplay. I have found the most interesting game environments come from people working on platforms built for explosive creative expression. Such MORPG's (though they call themselves MMORPG they simply don't cover the area to be Massive) can be really enjoyable. And, definitively, something very different from what you may be used to.

Hmm, unique new games, eh?  Nope.  Nothing.  There hasn't been for years and probably never will be.  Under the hype, all games are fundamentally the same as their predecessors.

At the moment? Not that I know of. Antilia (search 'antilia-game') is coming up though and has several (planned) unique aspects (clasless system, focus on non-combat activities as well, an unique magic weaving system, virtual game master). It's currently  in alpha phase and running a kickstarter though so no release coming up soon unfortunately but you might join the tests.

An older game that has some unique aspects is mabinogi. You level up skills by using them and it is basicly classles.  It has some flaws, but still pretty unique compared to most other games out there.

Unique indie mmorpg that would like your support:http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jeffleigh/antilia-a-majestic-3d-mmo

Unique new MMO games? Nah, look for singleplayer games instead.....

What MMO's haven't you played, fact is all of them are pretty similar in design but you can still get a fresh feeling by playing an mmo you haven't played before.

If not then do yourself a favour and go get Dark Souls or The Witcher 2, you will get totally engrossed in Dark Souls.

It also has decent PVP when you play in non hollow form, meaning playing in human for let's you invade other players worlds and get help from other players.

Well its a single player game but i think it qualifies as unique.  https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/  You might want to check out some of the vid's on youtube on it.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Yes, Entropy early access is on Steam right now.  It looks like Eve, but with ship dogfights.  I am thinking about trying this one, but it is currently in alpha, so it still most likely has a lot of bugs to work out.  If dropping $20 for early access doesn't bother you, this one could be worth a try.  After playing fantasy MMOs for 15 years I am looking for something new and this one has really caught my attention.

    Currently playing:
    Rift
    Played:
SWToR, Aion,EQ, Dark Age of Camelot
    World of Warcraft, AoC
