WAlex234WAlex234 Member Posts: 66

Hey all,

Im looking for a MMO to play that will keep me busy for awhile that has the following requirements.

-- Hard/Challenging team based PVE Either dungeons, or raids or both just some kind of end game

-- Fun community

-- Enough people playing the game to do the end game

-- Im not picky just looking for some decent PVE content that i havent had in a long time

-- Can be free to play or pay to play doesnt matter as long as its fun and i can enjoy it

-- Graphics do not matter there nice but content is key in my decision

taking all suggestions now

games im considering: Rift, TSW, GW2 (even tho theres really not a heavy pve focus), AoC

older games to consider: EQ1, EQ2, DAoC, Vanguard

Played:WoW,WH,Aion,Darkfall,DaOC,AoC,EQ2.

    **TSW**

Played TSW and I can say that it was "meh" in the Pve department. Even though you could completely switch up play-styles it still seemed somewhat boring, but if you like story behind the PvE then it's definitely worth a try. I'm not sure if there are big end-game raids, etc. as I only played up to a certain level (I think 3/4 of the way through).

    **EQ2**

EQ2 is bread-and-butter end-game type game. The PvE can be fun and it has an established community of players that like all sorts of facets of the game. I don't know what most people are going to do when EQNext comes out though (if they will stay with EQ2 or leave for EQNext). It definitely has end-game group-raid PvE, but I quit because it seemed like they were allowing progression that was too fast. The PvE setup basically based on gear-scores can be bothersome to some people.

    **GW2**

GW2 is either PvE heavy or PvP heavy or WvW (world vs. world) heavy. It's really your choice. The PvE in the game is certainly geared towards solo content, but their group content is fun  and slightly-challenging too. The problem is that most new PvE content (which is the only content worth doing gear-wise) doesn't seem that challenging at all. It takes a long time and there might be difficult spots, but it's not particularly challenging. It can also be very repetitive which can wear you out of the game easily.

It is a true F2P though...the item-store is really only cosmetic as are many of the best in-game items. Legendaries, for example, are not necessary and I find almost all of them to be ugly. Most people get them for the slightly (~4%) better stats and the cosmetics. The better stats make for almost no change to damage, etc. so they aren't necessary. It is an established game with a player-base of all types. If you like hardcore then you can find it. If you like casual then they can find it. If you like to eat the hearts of tigers to gain their courage then I'm sure you can find others that enjoy the same. This game doesn't have any big end-game type raids. Most end-game content worth doing is group-content.

    **DaoC**

I played this game, but I'm not sure how it's doing anymore. When I was playing it was mostly PvP or RvR (realm vs. realm) heavy and PvE was really just secondary [or tertiary]. The best thing about the game was the RvR and the PvP could be very fun. PvP servers made for interesting times and attempts at leveling, but it also became a pit of evil brood-spawn that spew out vile and filth as most people go overboard when it comes to open-world PvP. Is DaoC still running?...hmmm

It's definitely an established game (if it is running) and the player-base will be the hard-core types that love the game and everything about it as they haven't moved onto something else. This probably means that starting anew in this game will be a lot like starting anew in EQ1--people will take a while to warm-up to you and in some cases they'll outright dislike you entirely for no good reason. It was fun when I played and the graphics weren't that terrible.

    **Other games you mentioned**

If I didn't address them specifically then I have no clue about the game (except EQ1, but it's pretty much in the same boat as DaoC if not having a worse community). I've heard of them and/or played them, but don't know enough to tell you anything about the end-game PvE or the player community.

It took me quite a while to figure out that MMO's are just too easy now a days so I eventually found a game that offered me the perfect recipe for hardcore.

I pretty much play Path of Exile every day, on Hardcore (Die you lose your character) and let me tell you doing double Reflect Maps, or trying to kill Dominus on Cruel or Merciless is no cake walk.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
