If it's fun, I'll keep playing it.

    Guilty as well.

I will try it LOL. The worst case scenario is that I won't sub after 30 days. Looking for filler MMO when I need a break from my addiction to SWTOR.

Tried TSW, GW2, Final Fantasy XIV - none of them kept my interest for more than few days - with FFXIV less than 1 h, after realizing that majority of quest are mute which made game not playable for me - SWTOR can spoil ya. TSW was promissing but I really hate zombies.

I was in last Beta and althouth I was disappointed, I might play for a bit. No way though that it's going to keep me out from SWTOR.

FYI, zombies only make up a small proportion of TSW.

I wish I had stomach to play past "zombie" part LOL. I might revisit TSW in the future then.

Same with me as well, but I won't judge a beta based on early levels that feel more like a stress test.

that is why i refuse to play the beta, so many mmo's have been ruined for me by beta testing an unpolished or unfinished game.

Sorry but couldn't disagree more. The facts are if you do almost anything for fun it probably cost at least $15 a month or more. Do you have cable? If so I'm betting your bills far more then $15 a month. Do you drink or smoke I'm betting either will run you far more then $15 dollars a month. Do you eat out? Most likely one good meal a month at a restraunt will cost you $15 dollars a or more with a tip. Do you watch movies? One movie with  popcorn and a drink will cost you $15 in the states at least. So either you are super cheap and do basically nothing for entertainment or your deluding yourself.

End point you want a good MMO expect to actually pay for it don't expect anything good to be given to you for free, and if you can't be bothered to pay much of anything for your entertainment don't QQ when all you get is cheap crap that nickles and dimes you every other min with their cash shop to play.

uhhh ... you are forgetting the $60 it costs [mod edit] It isn't JUST $15 a month. If it was only $15 a month with out box price .. then I would probably actually pay it.

Also, comparing cable, food, movies and such to a mmo is [mod edit].

Cable has a whole lot more entertainment on it then a single mmo will ever have. It is easily worth the price.

I actually don't go out all that often to eat, and even if I did .. it's food. It keeps me ALIVE. Gaming isn't essential.

Movies? Well ... I go on Tuesdays where it's $5 per ticket here. With popcorn and a drink, sure it can get up to $15 ... but it isn't costing me an extra $60 upfront. Kinda funny how such an important factor is left out of your argument.

As for drinking and smoking ... I used to .. I quit. To expensive.

Super cheap? Nope, just am smarter with my money then most people. I till enjoy myself plenty and still but games and such. I simply just don't buy P2P games because I am not willing to spend $100s for a single game. Deluding myself? Again .. No .. not even close.

When i play MMO's I play for the fun of it, the fun i have with people I meet, my friends whom i speak with on various channels / TS, Vent, or whatever, when we explore the world the game.

We go PvE, Raids, Pvp or craft for days.

What other people think its not on my concern - just thinking they are having fun with what they are doing!

As I see It there are

-no right or wrong way to play, "only good maners counts"

    - No flaming, talking harsh "only ruins game experience" As I see it the flamer and the one being flamed its no fun in the long run. But it seems to be normal to push own ideas on others head of the game experience.

    - 15$ a month is not much in my economy "it might be in yours" But when you calculate up with what you get for the money compared to other expenses you might have, then i guess its not alot.

    - A good "guild/community" is basicly what I look for, where there is space for being who I am. through that i can get all the fun im looking for.

I wish you all a good fun gaming experience. "with what ever game you might choose to play"

I have yet to find a new mmo since Conan. Maybe the combat of ESO will be pretty decent.

    Yea, I will play.

ESO has a sub, and that indicates to me the game is highly invested and is not pure trash like a large percent of the genre.

Sub has no direct correlation to a games success.  If you make a game good then it will be successful, GW2 is proof of this.  ESO imo is relying on the IP sale to carry it around.  I played round with it in one of their big Betas and walk away with just wanting a next Elder Scrolls game not some MMO bastardization of a much beloved IP like what Neverwinter did.

And WoW is an anomaly, no MMO has been largely successful as a sub that is in direct competition with WoW.  All the game go either B2P or F2P to make revenue due to WoW's dominance.

I like  AoC for its PvE and fun dungeons. This game had it right for the most part. Diverse classes, not just cosmetic stuff, great storylines and engaging combat.

After I saw the last trailer video about PvP, I changed my perspective about ESO. Mark my words the 3-faction PvP will fail hard. Cyrodiil will become a playground for 2 or 3 kids bunny hoping around while most of the players outside Cyrodiil will be boring to tears with the non-existant exploration and fedex quests. I recommend to beta test the game, if you haven't done so.

Nothing else has been out there to play. Neverwinter was a big disapointment. Nothing has come out in 2013. I guess I will try it
  • PigglesworthPigglesworth Member UncommonPosts: 260

At the start of Spring, I stopped playing MMOs because I was bored of what was out there. So, I switched my entertainment money elsewhere. But, with ESO coming out, I will be starting back with MMOs.

So for me, its just a switch of entertainment money. With ESO coming out, I will not longer be watching much TV, so I reduced my cable service by $75 a month and will probably be spending about $50 a month less on other entertainment. This balances out the fact that I have to pay for seven $15 subscriptions for my family (wife/me and 5 kids).

This makes sense, since I will be enjoying ESO for a substantial time and won't have time for these other entertainments. So, yeah, subscriptions are fine. Most people have a set amount available each month for entertainment. The more time you spend on something, the less time you spend on something else. Same with the funds.

It'll be decided after Open Beta here, but i don't really like what i saw so far, unfortunately. In any case it'll be worth the money for the first month most probably.

10 years ago EQ II and WOW came out within a month of each other. I was sure EQ II would be the one I would play but, as usual, I tried them both... surprised the shit out of me when we ditched EQ II and stuck with WOW.

Media outlets that have embraced games like SW:TOR saying that they were going to be the "be all end all" of MMO's. I guess that it means that the game is actually going be something. How many of these type of threads can the community bare?

I thought my reason would be Tamriel lore. And it kinda still is.

Then I thought it would be the chance to experience a new take on three-realm RvR. And it still kinda is.

What ended up getting me really excited was the way they are handling the character builds and how they will relate to the AvA war and, to a lesser extent, PvE (lesser extent meaning I am personally more interested in PvP than PvE.)

The way they have allowed for so many diverse builds and so many roles that can be played in combat, both pve and in warfare, is great design. And that's ONLY taking into account the class, weapon, and armor skills we know about. The possibilities for specialized groups to take on specific aims in AvA and to form adaptable PvE teams is very exciting. So many styles are covered and they still manage to preserve some identity via class skills. Brilliant.

So my main reason for playing aside from the obvious for a fan of both ES and DAoC is that I feel like I am going to be able to create characters I love more than any in those games. With other people!

*scurries off to create more builds*

I have to say that I'm happy that we get to chose our play style instead of just being thrown on to a server that is always just PvP. I enjoy PvP, I just don't want to deal with the hassle of having higher levels always trying to grief you like on a PvP server in most other games. When I want to level I don't want to have to deal with some jackhole that gets their jollies from continually killing lower levels. I want to PvP on my time and that is not all the time.

I'll try the open beta if there is one and make my first judgement there. No matter what I think I won't actually buy the game until 1-2 months after launch. That's when you start to hear the real facts of the game
  • RampajiRampaji Member Posts: 50

When we listen to our own joy/fun and what we think is fu, then playing becomes much more fun, than playing game what others believe to be fun.

These are always the worst excuses. If I can get cable for free then why would I pay 15 bux for it? I can get another MMO for free that might actually be better why would I pay 15 bucks for another one? Because its different?

To be WORTH the price it has to offer the value. Chances are this game doesnt.

Its like WoW, WoW is supposedly played by all these people. I can guarantee that the VAST majority of them arent paying the stated sub price that NA and Eurpean players would pay. But if WoW were free it WOULD have a lot of people playing it, the reason those people ARENT playing it is because it costs money.

So these arguments are comparing apples to oranges. Now some people will pay 50-60 bux for internet even when they can get a slower connection for a lot less. Why? Because youre getting a premium service.

Final point is this game has a cash shop AND a subscription, so that negates the argument 100%.

So a 60 dollar 'box' price, a 15/mo sub fee, and a cash shop. To be able to attempt to offer that with a straight face this would have to be the best MMO in history. Spoiler alert...its not even close.

But the thing is for me personally, there isnt a game out there i want to play that is B2P or F2P.  I tried the free trial with GW2 and didnt like it.  So i will pay the money if i like the game.  I dont want to level up and then all of a sudden i get stuck and i have to now pay for something to continue in the middle of the game.  That is a horrible gaming experience to me.   I have no problem paying a sub and your cable example is horrible.  ESPN is ESPN no matter what cable company you use.  Video games are not the same.  So yeah i would pay extra for cable if i got the channels i want, that is why cable company offer different plans for different channels at different costs.  If a video game offers an experience that is fun and entertaining to me then i will gladly pay 15 bucks a month with a smile on my face.

Also value to you isnt the same value to somebody else.   If i would have listened to this forum i would have never ever played AOC for a couple years.  And its my favorite MMO experience i have ever had out of many MMOs.  But all this mmorpg.com did was bash the game.  For me it was incredible.
