Here is my take on both.
Mo - more sandbox by far. More hardcore feeling overall, more to keep you busy for the long run. Great crafting system. Harder for new players to learn the game.

Dfuw - less buggy feeling to the game, compared to mo. More of a world sized arena and not a sandbox nor theme park. I got rather bored with the meaningless Pvp and lack of sandbox content. Crafting is so so nothing new. The game was majorly care beared down compared to the older version and made it a lot easier for new players to learn.

    Currently will play neither game.

After recently returning to both, I agree with the above post, although I am finding MO to be a lot more like a modern take on UO than anything else I've tried lately. The DFUW community was toxic at best, whereas the MO community so far seems far more friendly overall. I had spent about a month in DFUW on my return there and I've only been back in MO for a few days now. DFUW was a month of trying to make it work, trying to enjoy it, and trying to get into the game but neither the playerbase nor the game mechanics made that fun. MO so far looks a lot more promising.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

IMO Darkfall seems more like a turd than MO... yeah it might be more polished, but the game srsly looks like wow graphics wise and their class system is atrocious, only thing I liked is their magic system, melee was really a joke...

Also MO devs are way more involved in their community than the AV guys... actually answering questions in the forums and such... they really care about their game

    Darkfall like WoW graphics?

Come on guys I get that some really hate the game and/or the company but really?

I need some of what the wow gfx guy is smoking. Dfuw has remarkable water and environment gfx for an indie mmo. Df is quite polished at this point. Archery and ranged combat are great. Melee is odd but I don't think they wanted self rooting so it is gonna feel slippery. Boat combat is also some of the best in the genre. Df community is a challenge though. Luckily I found one of the only laid back clans on the server. MO is just so unpolished.

I think those of us that dont want a 100 percent pvp focused sandbox need to keep the hope alive for 2014 and 2015.

Actually MO got alot more polished lately... sure there are still some bugs, but all of the game breaking ones are gone... With the new Territory Control patch the game is really going to take off I think... Sadly theres probably not going to be boat combat, if ever...

I also like MO graphics alot more than DF, theyre more realistic and with first person view they look great...  u gotta admit DF graphics look cartoonish compared to MO... and the melee in MO is way funner than in DF...

Anyways MO is more of a sandbox and DF more of a giant deathmatch...

Mortal Online is limited by their buggy engine, as was Vanguard. There are some cool ideas and its more of a sandbox/world simulator than Darkfall is. But if you enjoy PvP or PvE content, rather than social sandbox tools, Darkfall is far and away the best choice.

But, because of the engine, the PvP is nowhere near as good, the art is kind of atrocious, and the developers are even more clueless than AV. They charged 70 bucks for beta access and got fans to do their patcher. They are also heavily ban happy on their forums.

Sorry but darkfall Pve content is basically crap. Kill 180 mobs, that drop worthless loot move on to the next. None of the mobs really require tactics of any sort just beat them down. Not saying mo is any different but they are both basically the same.

Stopped reading there, seems you never played Darkfall. The PvE systems in both games are the same. No quests. THe difference is, the combat in Darkfall is actually fun and not glichy. The mobs have fantastic AI. The dungeons are some of the best in the industry (especially the new one). And the boss mobs are incredibly dynamic.
