FFXIV Advice.

Greetings to everyone, and to folks living in Long Island NY, hope you're safe tonight. I come to you, somewhat confused and in need of answers. Well, I'm not really confused, but I would like some sort of advice on choosing my Next MMORPG to play.

After years of WoW, fun times, bad times, memories and friendships gained and lost, I decided to hop over to guild wars 2 for a while, hit max level pretty fast, saw and came, blah blah, found that the content wasn't very.. engaging for me at least. So, I've decided to do a bit of soul searching in terms of MMORPGs. I've been both on the F2P and the P2P scene, and even the F2P + Buy 2 win Item malls, but I think it'd be a generally good idea for me to stick with some P2P MMORPGs.

Had played FFXI a while ago with my father, and it was pretty nice, being a huge fan of the entire franchise (up to some point) was also an added bonus, and I found it pretty enjoyable. Now, I've heard quite a few things about FFXIV and IV : ARR, (the reason I separated them is because I personally feel they're two different entities) and I was just wondering if there was anyone who has actually played who might be able to give me a little bit of a rundown.

I'm not expecting it to be WoW, or EQ or anything, I just want to see what it is for what it is. I play nothing but support, and I like being a big help to team efforts, which is a concern to me, would this be one of those situations where being a white mage isn't as useful as being a class that could just as easily switch to a DPS class while retaining some of the healing abilities? Is it a game where you reach a point where you're just able to solo things and not have to rely on others?

Just a few of the basics, and maybe the cons (according to the person answering) would be greatly appreciated, as well as some general discussion about the game.

Thanks in advance!
