Right, because millions of TES fans are going to run out and buy Wildstar?

I barely see an overlap in market segment.  I don't think they're targeting the same people.

Craziness of this thread aside, Wildstar is a fantastic game!

I'll be playing Wildstar but that's because I've yet to get into the beta.  I also want to raid though and I actually do want the holy trinity back, after playing GW2 it's made me a believer in that system again.  TESO was just pure terrible in every way when I totally didn't play it in beta (because that would be breaking the NDA.  So obviously everything I post after this is total speculation and not based on any actual in game experience.)  The world was boring, the storyline was dull and the game itself was just clunky and craptastic.  We'll probably be looking at the next SWTOR with that game.  It will survive, but it will be totally based on the hardcore fanbase who just want to play the next ESO game.  However that's also going to be it's major downfall.  TESO isn't ES enough to keep a lot of those players and it's not a good enough MMO to keep MMO players.  We'll see what happens.

I like to complain about games.

Well, personally I don't want to play another WoW.

    Retention.

That's the key that these games have to consider.  Sure a larger player base at launch is good, but it's not great to get a "huge" one only to have a large portion of those flip at the 30-day mark.  Why?  Because it turns that good publicity into bad publicity.  Announcements of subscription numbers and server mergers cause more of the player base to be skeptical if their investment is worth time and will still be there 1 year out or if the game will be shut down (or worse, changed to Freee-2-Play).

Wildstar has player investing mechanics such as their Fortress Wars and Player Housing.  What does TESO have for a players continual investment in the game's world?   I've not seen any hint of anything even close to an investable "I live in this world", which is sad considering in the last two ES games a player could purchase, own, and decorate their own house.

Even if there's players that say "go play Second Life if you want to play Barbie Dreamhouse Online, newb", you'll have to realize that TESO is going to get boring fast when you're 1 of 5,000+ "one hero of the world" that is killing the same Daedra and fighting the same wolves.   ES games are popular based on a player's ability to root their character into the game via RP elements, not being able to kill things in groups of 5.  That still brings up the question of why it's an Elder Scrolls Online game in the first place as the fanbase just really doesn't fit that target.

That's just single RP and character investment comparisons.  I'm too tired to get into the other issues such as how the aesthetics of TESO looks like a brown mess;  nor will I get into an animation comparison either (although looking at recent TESO videos vs recent Wildstar videos shows clearly which is more polished with combat abilities).   I'll just say that there's more a sense of quality and adherence to a specified audience with Wildstar ,where as TESO looks to be more of a rushed cash-in on the Elder Scrolls name.

Wildstar will be the best MMO over the next 5 years.
    1. It doesn't take itself seriously. It's hilarious, adult humor and just plain fun.
    2. Incredible fight mechanics with minimal UI.
    3. WoW like camera controls and movement (mouse view/move)
    4. Player housing is RIDICULOUS
    5. The double jump. (Let me say it again, the double jump)
    6. They respect Elites & Casuals.
    7. No Raid Finder
    8. A Hamster ball mount. <---Epic
    9. 40 man raids
    10. Raids that change weekly.
They said the first 5 mans you encounter will take 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on skill. The fights will be designed to prepare the player for raids. This game will be where everybody is at. So if you want community, play this game when it launches.

The developer said they want to please hardcore raiders because they want to separate the greater players from the average players. They want you to walk in to a city with insane gear and have casuals be like "wow thats awesome! How do I get that!"

These guys get it. A total original IP with an identity.

TESO is not MMO enough for MMO fans and not skyrim enough for ES fans.

If you're looking for a raid oriented, gear treadmill riding wow clone even down the art style, than yes. This game is for you.

I find myself in agreement. I am not usually one to wave the "wow clone" flag as it's horribly overused as a criticism. But Wildstar, for me, is probably the only game that really feels like wow re-mastered.

Ok so the combat is basically GW2 style with limited skills, dodge, telegraphs and red lines etc. But the rest of the game is right out of 2004. The questing was what stopped me playing within an hour. I'm sorry, but clicking quest text away, following the shiny arrow and killing 10 rats for my reward is not what I want to do in an MMO any more.

Sure some people will enjoy it, and good luck to them. I don't wish the game ill, nor do I think it's a matter of what's better or worse out of TESO and Wildstar. Different horses for different courses, and this one just isn't for me.

I would bet you weren't even out of the starting area.  Remember, not everyone has played mmos before.  They need to be eased into the mmo.  Doing that for the first 4 levels isn't that big of a deal.  Once you get in the first area (level 5-6).  You will get realyl fun and unique quests.  Not to mention the huge open areas.  You should give the game a chance.  I don't understand why people go into a beta.  Then quit in the beginning area.  I'm guessing you either had 0 interest in the game  before hand or you are just trying to troll and haven't played it.

I had significant interest in the game, and was lucky enough to get a Winter beta invite. I went in with an open mind and an intent to see what the game was all about.

I got one character to level 7 and was bothered by how underwhelmed I was with the gameplay. So I decided to start afresh with a new character in the other faction and got that to level 6. I stopped playing simply because I was bored. I had no desire to carry on and see more of the game. I did want to give the game a chance, but it should engage me within the time I played and it didn't manage to do that.

Yes I understand that maybe things change somewhat later on, but the questing will still be standard voiced npc greeting, click quest text, follow arrow to area and kill. For me, this is dull.

My gf got a character to level 18 and felt the same way. And yes, we both posted lengthy and detailed feedback on what we didn't like about the game.
