1)Good Music - Wow has amazing music 2)Good community 3)Very Good PVP
Not a single mmorpg exist which is very similar to WoW, free or not.
There are plenty of games that are like WoW, but you will find almost none that do what WoW does as well as WoW does it, especially free games.
SWTOR, RIFT and EQ2 are probably the closest you will get, but they are only free because they couldn't hold enough people as subscription games. Their free models vary from each other, so whether you can enjoy them as free or not is entirely up to you.
Actual proper free to play MMOs... Allods, Runes of Magic, Eden Eternal... they are all WoW-ish, though none of them come close to the real thing and they are all grind heavy.
I recommend either RIFT or to stop being so tight with your money and just buy GW2. I have no love for the latter, but it's better than playing these games for free imo.

EQII got there not due to subscriptions, but a mass exodus of players over game direction (SOE was being hamfisted), which is how WoW became popular (it sure didn't have the population in 2004, but after the exodus they did).
I haven't checked the PvP side of the game (I can't see EQII with PvP, it's almost sacrilegious to even think it), but the sheer amount of stuff in that game that WoW or any other game doesn't have even today, makes it worth looking into...if you have a good computer (the engine is brutal on the CPU -- renders via CPU mostly -- utterly brutal even on i7 systems [1920x1080 @ max settings = 10fps]).
I'd have to say either Rift or GW2. Although in order to enjoy both you'd need to spend a couple bucks. Look for a box copy of vanilla Rift at your local gamestop for $4.99 and you'll be set on that game (gives you 5 bags slot 6 character slots an 30 days patronage). GW2 requires you to buy the game for $39.99 and you'll be set there since it's B2P.
Originally posted by jdizzle2k13 Rift is the most WoW-like game I can think of. I liked its variety in talent setups and it's pvp. I can't really judge the community as being good or not good, though, because I usually hung out with my guildies.
Yeah Rift is the one that flat out brags that it stole from WoW and basically built its game to lure away players from WoW by making it very similar.......It really doesnt bring much new to the table if you have much experience in MMOs at all.
I agree with #1 and #2 (takes some digging but it's there). However what you remember from WolK and what is the PvP like NOW are very different things, sir.
a free trial to 20 in BGs can show you this, but for memories sake ... dont.
Yeah, you'll literally get killed in one shot by a protection warrior's shield slam.

I'd also recommend SWTOR.
After all, the haters always say it's just "WoW in space" - there must be something to it.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
In the last decade, I have yet to see a game have PvP as good as WoW's. GW2 structured PvP is actually pretty close (WvWvW is terrible though).
Don't listen to anyone telling you to engage in WoW PvP sub 90, low level BG's are abysmal - probably part of why Blizz is thinking about selling 90's, the low level experience is not what it used to be.

SWTOR has pretty good music, same kind of community mentality as WoW and similar arena style PVP matches. The only downside is for a free player you are limited to the number of PVP matches a week you can undertake which might make it a no go for you.
HAHAHA everything is "wow-clone" but when a guy asks legit(?) it can only be named a few.
10/10. Bravo!
now: GW2 (11 80s). Dark Souls 2. future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord. "Bro, do your even fractal?" Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Originally posted by sunandshadow This is in the wrong forum, but, Perfect World is extremely similar to WoW. It is free + cash shop, though I do strongly recommend buying an inventory expansion stone for any character you are sure you like and are going to play past level 15 or 20. You can buy cash shop currency with treasure in the auction house (assuming they haven't changed that since I played last) but on your first character you won't have enough to buy an inventory expansion stone until the lack of it has already driven you crazy for weeks.
Not really sure how this is in the wrong forum because i was sure that this is the General discussion.....

Overall, RIFT is the closest you can get to WoW without actually playing WoW. It is a solid game that does what it does well. It's community is quite good, even after the F2P transition, and it's strength is it's PvE content. That being said, it's PvP has always been weak and it has been sidelined (rightfully so, imo) for the PvE.
EDIT:
WoW's PvP, especially in BC, was unique. The feel of the combat and the environment it created made everything else I played feel sluggish afterwards. You'll find the mechanics and features in other games sure, but Blizzard does a good job polishing the experience that you don't really forget. Diablo 3 and Path of Exile + Hearthstone and other OCCGs also highlight this difference.
Guy's stop saying i should try SWTOR, i have a rant about how bad the Free-to-Play model is
I have a rant about those ranting about F2P models. Really why do we have people today who expect to be able to play a game in full without paying for said game? Games are not free to develop, games are not free to create content for, servers and bandwidth are not free as well. So a game NEEDS a revenue stream to stay in business and keep going farther. If they didn't have major limits on F2P which is really only an extended trial no one would ever sub and pay. SWToR's F2P model is designed around allowing the casual person who just plays a bit play as they choose without paying money. Those people buy in the market the few things they need as they go that other subbing people buy and sell for credits. Those its designed around are likely playing multiple games and don't want to pay their sub for WoW, Rift, and SWToR.
Now if you want to be playing hours ever day having it consume your free time then get a damn sub so you have access to all the real content. Support the game.
How long you think a restaurant would stay open if you offered a Free 2 Eat program especially where you could get any of their menu and as much as you wanted whenever you wanted.
If you want a good game then be willing to pay for it. Stop thinking its fine to take what someone else spent money to make and expect it for free. Do you expect companies to come and tell you its totally cool to pirate their merchandise? Stores to put up signs that its cool to shop lift? Not much of a difference when you expect someone else's product for free and when they do you a solid offering you something for free you whine its not good enough.

GW1 PvP was hands down the best PvP in the genre. Although the game itself is not technically a MMO. Shame there isn't really the population to support the PvP anymore. Takes ages to get matches now.
As for WoW sub-90 PvP, if you don't have heirlooms, expect to get demolished. Also the overpowered class changes from tier to tier, and people will cap their overpowered toon at those tiers.

Nah he said he needed good PvP.
A great list of free games (mostly MMORPGs): http://www.mytop10games.com/
