While word on the Trion Worlds adaptation of ArcheAge has gone quiet again, partly due to the holidays, it seems the Russian and Korean versions have been getting a bit of attention. Russian ArcheAge fans were able to spend some time in their localization of the game, while Korea is gearing up for an update that brings some more tweaks and longevity into the formula. Let’s jump into both topics, shall we?

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Heh, indeed, along with bikinis...
Must admit though, my hype for this game has regained a bit of what has been lost during the past year.
I second that................ really if the game has cars and bikini I won't touch it with a bargepole.
I have enough of this cute and fluffy nonsense that's invading the Western MMO industry.
Leave the cute and the soft porn to Koreans please.
Cars and bikinis?! What is the world (of MMO's) coming to these days? I swear if I see more than 10 square inches of skin or if transportation is anything but a horse, I'll flip out.
then just play west games (there's enough of them).
archeage thanks god east game - and i will vote for bikini with my money (no cosplay stuff = no money from me and i'm not beggar)
Thanks, that's exactly what I am going to do.
Let's see if catering for people like you is more profitable than catering for people like me.
I am willing to bet that if Archeage (by Trion) incorporate this kind of stuff, the game will bomb, Westeners take immersion more seriously than Asians.
One of the reasons I left EQ2 (not the main) was because they started to put Xmas trees in Freeport during the festivities.
I mean, lovely, cheerful, bright Xmas trees in gloomy, dirty and nasty Freeport? ................... Are you kidding me?
If the game bombs, it's not going to be because of Christmas trees, cars, and bikinis.
Population of China - 1.3 billion (not including the rest of East Asia, all highly populated)
Population of Russia - 143 million
Population of US - 314 million (not including other western countries, all not very populated)
Population of Europe - 739 million
Yeah sure... I don't think Westerners are going to win this one. Not. Even. Close.
hope so as well
Thanks for the article Victor B.
Have some things to add tho, which are missing from the list and i think are important:
1. In the RU version, now in order to craft level 44+ items, you need the traditional KR ingredients plus a certain number of "Delphi Dust" (obtained by smashing "Delphi Coins" (trading) at the Alchemy table), this will make crafting high level items much harder and force more trading, thus more PvP.
2. In the KR version, with the 1.0 patch there is another update to the trading system about which XLGames is silent:
"Company XLGAMES shared new information about the January update apart from the above. This time, we were told about the new trading system. Apparently, now losing trade packs during the transition will be less offensive to the pack maker, the player will receive only 40% of the value of the pack, while the remaining 60% will come in the mail to its creator." - keep in mind that there is a change the translation is not 100% accurate!
Well you know there are tons of Western mmo's you can sink your teeth into. God forbid a game has cars and bikinis in it. You better also close your eyes when you go to the beach and preach to everyone "I won't be going to the beach if there are bikinis and sand!" . It's absurd lol.
I personally appreciate Eastern mmo's for all their quirky cuteness. I don't want to see a "Westernized" game please NO !!
100% agree with this!
ArcheAge is an MMO from the East! It does not need to be "Westernized" to appeal to some snotty players who spout on about "immersion" in a freaking fantasy MMO that has a cat-like race.
Smile
100% disagree. Nothing worse than seeing something from modern day RL in my fantasy mmorpg.

Archeage will bomb because westerners care about their immersion more than Asians? Do you have anything to back that up or this another case of, "my guildies and I were talking and we've come to this conclusion"?
100% disagree. Nothing is worse than seeing people grinding the same 5 battleground maps over and over and over and over again for some stupid helmet.
I'll drive a pink car with a Razer logo on it before I delve into those redundant and immersion-breaking battlegrounds. Capture the Flag? Huttball? So incredibly lame, IMO.

You cant be serious.
Looking at pretty much every MMO with cash shop vanity items available in the western hemisphere you are completely wrong.
"Immersion breaking" vanity items are everywhere in MMOs.

They put evil versions of Xmas trees in Freeport / Neriak. They had eyes hanging from them and red lights - http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_Frostfell_Tree
Individual adventurers could get the good version of the Frostfell tree and put it up in their own home, but the evil towns were decorated in an evil way. EQ / EQ2 has always been reasonably good with its lore and explanations.
This makes me sad. Stop assuming the way you feel about something is how everyone else will feel. In no way is anything you said more than just an opinion. Personally, I love eastern games. Yes there are differences, and they are welcome in my eyes. We have plenty of 'westernized' mmos to play. I'd like to see something a little different from time to time.
I wonder how did Final Fantasy ever become one of the most popular franchises in gaming in the west. I could name a lot of other JRPGs too. And Anime too, Cartoon network has been getting so much ratings off of Anime on Adult Swim.
Immersion is different for different people. Just because you dont find something immerssive doesnt mean its not immerssive to others. That yellow part of your comment is so ignorant.
If it wasnt for asians we wouldnt have things like Thundercats and Transformers
