Normally I'd look for a low-tech setting in a crafting game.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story. So PM me if you are starting one.

The problem with Entropia Universe is that EVERYTHING is built in that game to have a RL equivalent value. It just SCREAMS "use your RL money to play a digital game!" instead of hard work or actually exploring/experiencing the game.
It's more of a "feeling" issue than anything else, and I for one do not enjoy my wallet being a prop used for a game's core model.

For me it would be much better as a Sub based game. It isn't free to play in it's current state, there is really no way you are going to be able to even get started without spending cash. Which, ok cool if I need to shell out cash to play, just give me a subscription and let me go on my way with the basics I need.
Having said that, it would really change that game a lot to add this stuff in. I think for the 'entropia purists' that would be a no go.
The reality of the situation is I hate the graphics of the game, I do not like the premise of the game, the PvE is horrid, I am not a huge fan of what little community I did run into while playing. Over all the game is not for me. So in regard to my statements above, while those changes would make it more appealing, it would never be 'my game', so leave it how it is imo.

i knew the game since its first come out. i came back to tried get into the game sometime later too. but i can never get to like the game. its just doesnt hug me up.
as someone said. the game focusing into taking your money and giving it around rather than story, landscape. its more like a social game where people had the feeling of "owning land" "being rich" when they using their wallet.
as for me, i think i will spend my precious life time on other game even if this one go F2P. such as WOW on it vanilla time. even F2P game like maple story gave me some good time with friend.

Entropia is a bit dated now, but if it had been a regular sub game, instead of what it appears to be, which is a real cash gambling game, then i would probably have given it more of a chance, i did try the game but to be honest, unless you are willing to spend a fairly significant amount, you don't really get to play the game at all.
This is akin to asking what if EVE was designed with a PVE only server. It's too much of a variance from the core design and just isn't really conceivable.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
That's more likely Second Life, lol.
If they did that it would change the entire reason the game exists. It's supposed to be a real economy in a virtual environment.
It would still be boring to play though.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
