After playing guild wars 2 and seeing what a company can do with a game with no monthly subscription. if a MMORPG comes out and the company creating attaches a subscription fee to it for me to even look at it, the game better have top notch quality in every category.
it better have amazing graphics
it better have amazing character animations
it better have amazing spell animations
the world better be top notch
the game better hook me from the get go
call me a snob but I am holding subscription based MMOs to a much higher level now. Like for example Wildstar and ESO after playing the betas those games are not worth the subscription fees because of what i said above.

ok...good to know.
if that's all you want, you should feel like you're playing in the golden era of mmorpgs.
I agree, Ecoces!
And, until the subscription model dies out (which it will), developers really do have to offer the very best. You have so much competition with MMOs based around the F2P model.
A great list of free games (mostly MMORPGs): http://www.mytop10games.com/
i know this is taken out of context but i couldn't resist

GW2 is the only AAA MMO ever to release without a Sub and there was a reason why. Its a game not meant to be played very long. It had no endgame, simple and easy gameplay and made for ultra casual players who do not play or like MMOs.
If you want to play a a game without a sub price at release you have to play a bad cheaply made game which has no long term play value. If you play a MMO with a sub there is a chance you might get a poorly made game with no future but you also stand the chance of getting a much better game, with more content and a somewhat finished endgame. Much better than one gets from the cheap F2P games but the quality could and should be a lot better. But can you blame companies. They release poorly made unfinished games and people buy them. Blame the consumer. He is the problem.
