LF A NEW MMO.

ViadricViadric Member Posts: 151

Hey guys I have recently quit WOW and was wondering if you all could recommend  a good MMO that contains:

  • High Population.
  • Good-Great Combat Animations.
  • Amazing PVE without a gear treadmill.
  • Decent PVP or Open World.
  • Active Guilds.
  • No P2W or Item Mall.
  • Holy Trinity. (I love tanking.)

MMORPG's I have played:

  • Guild Wars 2.
  • SWTOR.
  • WOW.

I don't really care if it's sub or not.

I was looking into The Secret World because it's 5 dollars on Amazon.

Anyways any suggestions would be appreciative. Thank You. : )

First, TSW is an awesome game, you should try it definitely :)

But, it's not a perfect candidate for your list maybe.

    • High Population.  - it has decent population, with peaking to the "high" region during the events
    • Good-Great Combat Animations.  - khm. I don't give a *** on it and I think it's fine, but if you check the forums, a lot of folks keep bringing it up as the weakest part of the game
    • Amazing PVE without a gear treadmill.  - amazing PVE, with a gear treadmill in the end, sadly. (I don't like this part of TSW either)
    • Decent PVP or Open World. - not open world, and I'd say decent, but I don't pvp :) pvp'ers are not always happy with it.
    • Active Guilds.  - check.
    • No P2W or Item Mall.  - check, it has an ingame store, but mostly just for cosmetics, or services (rename, etc.)
    • Holy Trinity. (I love tanking.)  - it's classless, but the roles are definitely there, you can build thousands of different tanking builds. And if you are taking into count only the major differences, then still you can build at least 3-4 different ones. (translation, 3-4 tank "classes")

Minus the gear threadmill you described WoW to the letter. I'm afraid that list of yours doesn't even close to exist. The No Item shop alone crosses out 90% of MMO's. Almost every MMO besides WoW also has terrible combat animations, a fact I always found mind boggling.

Your best bet is still WoW, it is the only game that even comes close to meeting your standards. Not saying your standards are unrealistic, just that they aren't currently met by any MMO on the market.

Hey man can you explain to me how the gear grind goes? Is it like wow where you get points and they are at a weekly cap and you buy them from vendors? Or do you have to actually raid for the gear?

If you don't mind I'd rather not because it's a mind-boggling grind and I try avoid it at all cost :)

But dulfy has a great detailed guide for it: http://dulfy.net/2012/07/18/endgame-gearing-in-tsw/

Brr... just red it quickly through, the horror... the horror  (c)Sheldon :)

As I wrote above, maybe the weakest part of TSW for me. I prefer questing and playing with the Wheel.

That's just like wow you have some sort of currency system that you trade in for gear. Interesting. The dungeon systems seem interesting.  Elite and Nightmare dungeons.

    ... and raids as well.

They're pretty good, fun mechanics and nice setup. (but my favourite is still AoK in Conan, true, that's also Funcom. They can make great dungeons.)

TSW doesn't even meet half his standards....... Kinda surprised it's even mentioned honestly.
