Why should I bother to convince you to play a game when I won't get anything from it? If you want to try it, download it and try it out. It's FREE right now. Don't like it? Delete the game and move on. People who make threads like these lack common sense in my humble opinion.

I suggest you dont try it.

really there is no reason to play the game at all, there is no objective. no real reward to keep you ingame and loving it.

just random ganking/smacktalking and overall assholeness

It is a good game overall, since it got a good consept, but still some lack in structure.

One major thing is that most of the people trying it in beta stages are around 12+ in many cases, meaning there is sometimes anarchy in the game thanks to them.

I think that this will stop to some level (can never get rid of it completely) once it's in retail and the fees are on since only the ones that care about the game will stick to it in longer terms.

Try it if you want to buy it, it is a beta for a reason.

you guys are just little 13 year olds who only play shootemup or slicemup games that are the true pointless games. this game is very cool when you get the hang of it because it has good economics and cool REAL life in it in the future. the only thing they need to fix is fun you know thats all.

    Alright, where to begin

First I believe the game should have been in closed beta, not open. Since the mentality of most players in open beta is to consider it a trial rather than a beta test. I feel it would have been better in the long run. Although, I must say that at this stage the game is almost ready for open beta. There is currently a 3 day downtime for major updates. No one knows what exactly they're going to be implementing, but there's a big wishlist out there and if they fullfill half of it I'm sure most of the community would be appreciative.

I would reccomend to anyone who wants to give it a real try, and help improve the game that you signup after this downtime. Also, for those who came on and were disheartened you may want to give it another try. Of course, I am an admitted addict of this game, and I'm sure if I gave my forum/IRC alias people who play the game would recognise me as a big advocate. Of course I have a bias, because I honestly believe in this game and I see this game as perhaps the most involving game currently out there. But again, you only get out from it as much as you put in. It's based entirely on player interaction, there are no NPCs to kill (yet), there are no automated missions to do, it's based entirely on player interaction and a social structure. Two big parts, are combat and roleplay, both have their place, the roleplay is their to temper the violence and create more of a social structure. This is happening as we speak, unnfortunately at a rather slow pace, but we are starting to see quite a political/social arena forming with alliances/treaties/backstabs/and so on.

So if you're interested in heavy player involvement then give it a go after the downtime.

Ok first of all i would like to say i have been playing FOM since the open beta start and ilove it...the reson why its not in closed beta is cuz the story line isent finished, we as open beta players sit in a position where we can shape the story line makin the game a comunity game (one of the best) also pple who have been plying the game mus relize that trying it out for an hour or 2 isent enough since the wars and faction have a ingame meeting once or twise every week and plz be sceptic of the game since its player controlled alll the way thru, but thats one of the beutiful things about it aswell u as an get up rank be actually beeing good in the game since u get promotions from other players in ur faction...i my self are an rank 6 (second best) in one faction and a rank 4 in the one im playing in now i just gotta tell u guys that this game is gonna ROXOR UR BOXORZ when it hits retail and get all the stuff implemented...

    SRY for any misspellings...::::21::

The game for me has taken a dramatic turn. When I first played it, it seemed pointless, there was no real objective, no real goal to achieve.

Now, I quite enjoy it. It seems to have adapted a more tactical need to play. Allowing the players to control the economic recources, mine and create equiptment, protect and serve, or kill for money has led the game to greater places.

Each player now serves a part he or she didn't serve before.

There are all-out wars, as well as political and democratic wars. Alliances, treaties, etc. Also, bringing in the phase of a Xeno invasion has also led to teamwork and communitic influence.

Say what you want about it, i still like it. Although i do not believe it is worth paying for.

  • thefatelfthefatelf Member Posts: 13

well i wouldent pay for it right now either, but i would pay for it when it goes retail cuz i know some old GMs and some new ones and the stuff they are gonna put in and the stuff they are gonna change before retail is gonna blow our minds out when they get implemented, of course im not gonna tell u what since im not alllowed to.

All in all its worth the wait

PS:theres about 3-6month berfore the game hits retail and just look at the changes so far, this game is gonne roxzor all ur boxzorsimage

The same goes for your posting abilites.  ;)

The Open Beta has gotten alot better.  There is less ganking and GameMasters have made things more interesting.

There is now a tutorial, and each faction is more than ready to help recruits.  Give it a try.  I'm liking it so far.
