Act now and pay $500 to insure you have an in-game house!
The level of absolute greed shown by Garriott is disgusting. I say we get a collection together to send him into space... and keep him there.
Enjoy Greedy Garriott's pay to win crapfest, folks.

But where else where I put my skull collection?

You seriously think he is more greedy than the CEO of Blizzard or EA? He is just trying to make money for his game and taking advantage of the kind of suckers who think owning a house in a game makes them special. They feel good and game gets better. No one loses. Such a double standard. I bet you don't think WoW is greedy for having a sub and a cash shop at the same time.
Your comparing a sparkle pony in WoW's cash shop to pre buying a house or villa for upwards of 5k, an item that is a central part of SOTA's game play. Lolz your silly :P
NO COMPARISON MY FRIEND
WoW doesn't need the money. They're already swimming in it with millions of subs, they're just doing it because they can. SotA is not a game yet and needs money to make the game (and the money they raised on KS is a pretty small budget even for an indie game). Which is really more greedy?
Plus how is owning a house central to the gameplay? I don't plan on buying one and am sure I'll be able to play fine. A house is about as useful as a sparkle pony. Actually kind of funny that people shell out thousands of real dollars for them but they're helping to make my game better so I can't complain if that's how they want to spend their money.
Your comparing what you did with the in game currency model from a 17 year old game to the buying power of real money in todays games and actually believe your going to be able to earn enough in game currency to buy a keep?
No way my friend, not without buying gold (probably for Garrets in-game cash shop) or buying a keep outright with again real cash, from some third party unauthorized trading site.
He has already established the value of housing outside his game using real cash, it will follow suit right into the game when it goes live, that's the thing some people are failing to realize.
Amen brotha. I once had a tower, but it took 3 of us pitching in to get it.
You couldn't be more wrong. People will do this without spending a dime. Not many, but they will. Yes prices have been set for real money houses in the fund raising campaign. That doesn't mean it's impossible to do it without real money unless they design it that way.

Don't think I can enjoy this game knowing that that my unfortunate and misinformed, relatively high backing will never be good enough for Garriott & co.
Is it too much to ask to experience the game fully without bankrupting myself??
Maybe you've been ignoring all the press regarding the game, but owning a home has indeed been presented time and again as being a central part of SOTA's gameplay experience. With just about every video, they've pounded that into our skulls.
Also, who said anything about EA or Blizzard? I sure as hell didn't and I think your assertion that I can't mention my disgust with Greedy Garriott's attitude or wanton cash-grabbing without somehow bringing two completely unrelated companies into the discussion to be ridiculous, and a (piss poor) attempt by yourself to shift the focus of the topic at hand.
By the way, did I mention that Greedy Garriott never bothered to inform people that real cash was needed for property until AFTER the fucker's kickstarter was complete? Or how about the fact the immediately put up a 'no refunds' policy when he did so?
Richard Garriott is a lying sack of garbage, period. If you give him your money, then you deserve to be ripped off.

We have enough publishers, middlemen, pencil pushers and budget hawks already regulating how much money they think developers need in order to make a game, do we really need to add disgruntled-mmo-players-who-feel-insulted-because-Garriott-knows-how-bad-they-want-to-showboat-something-they-have-to-spend-a-sh!tload-of-real-money-to-get-but-really-cannot-afford-it-in-the-first-place-crowd to that list?
Look I understand where you're coming from. I too looked at the pledge levels and checked out the cost of getting a house right off the bat. Difference is though I'm willing to work for whatever small shack I can afford for a online house and throw that misguided sense of entitlement to the wayside for a moment. So I'm contemplating getting a set of the crafting tools so I don't have to spend a lot on repairs while I work my way up to afford that little shack.

I would like to take this opportunity to Thank Mr. Garriott....
for showing his true colors before I had a chance to throw away any more of my hard-earned money on this game.
The thought that purchasing his virtual real-estate once crossed my mind makes me cringe. I consider myself lucky in that regard.
Yeah it's pure entitlement. Garriott doesn't owe me a house. He owes me a good game for what I pledged. I too thought the prices for houses were outlandishly expensive so I just didn't buy one. If I can make one in the game without too much grind I'll do it. If not I won't. No matter what he says in the videos trying to sell the houses (I usually skip that part of the videos because Garriott the real estate salesman is boring) I don't think they're really important to playing the game as an RPG or even an MMO. Probably will be just glorified storage perhaps with some crafting stations attached. Nice to have maybe but certainly not essential to playing the game.
My reason for bringing up Blizzard and WoW is because other companies do "greedy" shit all the time and don't get shit on like this in the comments but apparently Garriott is supposed to run his game like a charity because he used Kickstarter. It's a dumb double standard.
ugh is it really? it looks fun but man f2p=I wont touch it.
For Nostalgia I suppose, maybe to help support the ambitions of the man who was a gigantic part of making mmo's what they are today, but in terms of the game goes I totally agree with you. It just doesn't look impress compared to what's out there
Main Game: Eldevin (Plat0nic)
2nd Game: Path of Exile (Platonic Hate)
It's B2P not F2P at least judging from the Kickstarter.
This post is highly unrealistic.
How do you expect he funds the development. Option clothing? it wouldn't nearly have the same draw. Wait let me guess. He should work 40+ hours a week for 3 years with no income and then charge a 15 dollar sub. once the game is finished.
