My reasons for cancelling

kmimmorpgkmimmorpg Member Posts: 624

Before posting this I hesitated, because several weeks ago, on the Guild Wars forum I got slammed for saying how bland/boring I felt GW was. (They said I should have not posted my opinion). Well, here I am - to post my current opinion about WoW. I may get flamed this time too, but such is the life of a forum poster I guess.

First of all, WoW is a great game, I would not hesitate to recommend it. I enjoyed it for 5 months. My only real complaint - wait queues and lag (sans zerg sites), have all but disappeared for me.

Now, for my background: L60 Warrior, several alts (none past L15)

Here are my reasons, in no particular order:

  • The fallout caused by the honor system (corpse-running on PvP servers - oh joy!)
  • Lack of casual play (my inability to carve out a niche of 3-hour non-stop play at level 60)
  • Bored/Burned-out (game was so fun, I played *too* much)

I have been logging on lately out of habit. I still enjoy doing things with and for my guild - but not enough to pay the monthly fee. The nails in the coffin for me where when I realized I was basically loitering in IronForge, fishing (gasp!), and standing outside of Gadgetzan counting how many times the same group of horde would kill me if I didn't fight back.

I am not leaving WoW just to play some other game, so its time I face the sunlight. (Ay - it burns!)

I agree with you about the Bored/burned out. I have a lvl 55 Warrior and many alts, highest is a 22 Rouge. I loved the game, and still do like it. It just seems when I log on now, I dont really know what to do. Im tired of doing all the same instances. The honor system just caused way too much ganking. There was alot before but now you cant even finish 1 quest in a contested area. Ive had so much fun in the game but I too think I over played it. Maybe I will take a break and come back later when the add new continents and such.

End game sucks terribly, before the patches MC was an actual challenge and was very hard, but now its easy as hell like its almost as easy as fricken BRS, and theres nothing left for me theres no more content but onyxia after that, and thats like the only "real" challenge, so until BG comes out or like a expansion im quiting until then

exactly...doing the same instances over and over again.  as i said, this game is repeatitive...it does not worth a monthly fee.

What's sunlight?  Is it that thing that burns your eyes and skin and causes you to sweat profusely after being in it for 30 sec...?  image

I wouldn't offer up GW as a alternative to WoW. (Which I guess is what you are doing by posting here?) I've heard some people say it could work as a complement to WoW, but for me even that is not true. The issues that have led me to cancel will not be fixed by anything offered in GW.

L55? I feel for you!!! When I get ganked I usually just laugh about it, because I am in no hurry to get anywhere. But before you think L60s don't have it bad too...

Everyone knows how much time it takes to get a dungeon group together (I am not joking when I say up to an hour.) You know in advance it is going to take (at least) 2 hours to run the dungeon. Put on top of that, a group of horde jumping each member as they try to enter the instance. So now you've added another 1/2 hour - 45 mins. I just don't have that kind of time.

It seems most games have trouble with the high end content.  It seems once you get to the max lvl all there is for almost any game is a big enemy to defeat (which becomes easy once someone figures out how to do it) and then some form of PvP.

I personally couldn't play past my Human/Mage in mid-40s. It just takes too much time for certain characters it seems and it took me forever to always find a group because everyone wanted Warriors/Healers. The game also seemed to focus more on PvP (which i have no problem with that don't get me wrong) but I would have liked to see more skills, talents, etc. ::::28::

Too bad you couldn't last a little longer. Most higher end instances seem to benefit greatly from having a mage in a group. Also it seems mages rock in honor system PvP.

that's not the first time i've heard that::::35:: the game overall just seemed to take too much time. other than that i've never played anything like WoW. i'm currently waiting for HJ to come out. I definitely hold some high hopes for Simu but we'll see what happens.

    1. Why didnt you start playing on a PVE server? So you wouldnt have this problem but still beeing able to PvP whenever you want.....

    2. and 3. well... seems to be your own mistkae... you just shouldnt play that much ;D.... it works. How about playing another Class or Race? Believe me its much different...

Quite awhile back I cancelled my WoW account after the first month it was out. I reached level 51, but due to alot of things such as item/gold whores, grinding, hours spent equals a better character, and feeling somewhat lost and bored I just trashed my account. I just got this feeling that I was in Anarchy Online all over again and that WoW was really no different from alot of the other MMO's out on the market today (some exceptions). Yes, I'll admit it was really fun at first for me, but as I got into the higher end stuff, it just really turned me down that this was not more of a casual game, but more of a hardcore game for all of the grinders and campers that must spend hours and hours at a time to actually "be something".

Just not my kind of game when I'm sinking $15 a month for those kind of things. If the question ever came to me that, "Would I consider coming back if some of of those things were changed?" Yeah, I would most definately have an open mind and consider coming back if it was proved to me that some of those things were actually changed by the devs. Till that happens or if that ever happens, my money is going elsewhere.

    1. That is the common reply you see when someone mentions anything about PvP servers. Up until the honor system, the PvP atmosphere had only created minor annoyances here and there. Perhaps if they had PvP -> PvE transfers I would have considered it. But having to reroll my character from scratch? If I'm bored now, imagine how mind-numbing that would be.
    2. From 1-60 you are able to accomplish things without having to sit for more than 2 hours straight. Then at 60 all that is left requires at minimum 2 hours. And some instances take 6 hours or more! How is that my mistake that I don't have the time to do that?
    3. I have tried leveling up different classes and races. But I found myself just going through the motions and not really having much fun.

I agree somewhat. I had more issue with dungeons (instances). In order to get any decent loot you have to be able to have long stretches of time to complete them.

I play on a pvp server and have no issues with the Honor System. If anything, pvp for me has improved by quite a bit. Camping and ganking is nothing new, and I seriously doubt it's increased.

I belong to a large and active guild, so I've never waited longer then a few minutes to do an instance run. Other the UD Strat and MC, I'm not really a big fan of instances. Most of my time is fighting and questing outdoors.

Besides, I'm really excited that Battle Grounds are on the horizon now ^_^

Kmimmorpg, sounds like it's time for you to try something different. Your posts this week would indicate your just bored. Nothing wrong with that, these are just games not life substitutes, lol. Go play SWG, I'm sure you find it fun for a little while.

"I seriously doubt it's increased" Oooookay. Moving on.

Yes, I mentioned I was bored already. But it is less of I'm bored with what WoW offers and more of what I could do I can no longer do and I'm relegated to doing things that are boring. See the nuance?

Life substitute? Where did that come from?

I did check out the Battle Grounds on the test system. It does look cool. I'll put my short visit in another post.

I think people are using ganking and camping as an excuse to rail against the Honor System. I've had no problems leveling my various alts, nor has anyone in my guild.

I meant no offense with the 'life substitute' comment. I've seen too many people get wrapped up in MMOs and play them longer then they should. If you get bored, nothing wrong with taking a break or moving on.

I don't have a problem with the Honor System per se.  It is the Honor System atmosphere.

Based on what you say I have a feeling you are not trying to level an alt that is between 49-60.

No offense taken.  I agree with you, nothing that consumes your life could be healthy. image
